WhatThePort for Linux is a Rust utility that lists the dev servers still running in the background, the project that started each one, and its RAM use. It links each server to the Claude Code or Codex session that launched it, and stops the whole process tree without touching databases. The CLI offers `wtp`, `wtp stop <port>` and `wtp --json`. A reviewer notes the Codex resolver keeps the newest transcript per working directory, so session matches can be wrong.
What it claims
WhatThePort for Linux is a tool that shows which dev servers are still running, which project started each one, and how much RAM each uses. This post is an update after the launch: the author, G (@gg_guy03), rewrote it in Rust in response to launch feedback. The rewrite brings back a color-coded memory bar, adds a hover view of each server's share of RAM, and gives clearer errors when a stop or restart cannot run. The hover and memory bar mean it has a graphical interface alongside the CLI, and it supports restarting servers as well as stopping them.
How to use it
The post links to a GitHub repository under a whattheport-li… path; the full URL is truncated on the page. The terminal commands are:
wtp
wtp stop <port>
wtp --jsonwtp lists every server, wtp stop <port> stops one, and wtp --json gives output for scripts. A stop kills the whole process tree, and the author states the tool never touches databases.
Limits
A reply on the thread reports a session-matching flaw found by reading the source; the reviewer says they have not run the Linux app. The Codex resolver keeps only the newest transcript per working directory. If chat A starts a server and chat B later works in the same directory, chat B can be shown as the session that started it. The reviewer asks whether folder-based matches could be labeled "estimated"; the page does not show a response. The post gives no install steps, supported distributions, licence or version number.
