Working with academic communities to build scientific understanding
OpenAI describes three results its models produced in October 2026: a proof of the local smoothing conjecture in all dimensions, a disproof of the Exponential Time Hypothesis, and an existence proof for four-dimensional Yang–Mills and QCD. Each is shepherded by external expert groups under four principles (transparency, no academic credit, recognition, independence). Lean proofs and AI writeups for two results are on GitHub. All claims are OpenAI's.
TL;DR Announces three AI-produced results in math, complexity theory and physics, and the external expert collaborations set up to verify and explain them.
