Ledger investigates potential wallet tampering after reports of $86 million in crypto stolen
Ledger is investigating reports of over $86 million allegedly stolen from hundreds of Bitcoin, Ethereum and Tron wallets tied to devices sold by Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis. Ledger asked the reseller to halt sales/shipments and advised recent buyers not to activate devices and already-activated users to migrate funds to a new device with a freshly generated recovery phrase, as a possible supply-chain attack (devices pre-loaded with an attacker-known recovery phrase) is one explanation under investigation. No independent confirmation of the loss amount or root cause has been established yet.
TL;DR Ledger probes suspected $86M theft possibly linked to pre-tampered hardware wallets sold via reseller CryptoBilis.
