CVE-2026-106931 is an OS command injection (CWE-78) in the statistics processing of EG Secure Solutions SiteGuard Server Edition, a host-based WAF. It can give root or SYSTEM command execution. The vendor and JVN confirm exploitation on 14 October 2026. The post lists fixed builds (Ver8.00 Update 5, Ver7.00 Update 6 on FreeBSD), the IIS exclusion, the workaround of disabling statistics, and a SOC trail starting with diagnostic preservation before patching.
What it is
CVE-2026-106931 is an OS command injection (CWE-78) in the statistics processing of EG Secure Solutions SiteGuard Server Edition. The vendor and JVN confirmed exploitation on 14 October 2026. The post is a CyberForge write-up that draws on those notices and on JPCERT-AT-2026-0032. It adds the exact affected ranges, the access prerequisites and the conflicting prioritisation data.
Preconditions / Affected
Statistics must be enabled, which is the default. The lower boundary is Ver2.20.
- Apache httpd / Nginx, non-FreeBSD: Ver2.20 up to before Ver8.00 Update 5.
- Apache httpd / Nginx, FreeBSD: Ver2.20 up to before Ver7.00 Update 6.
- IIS: the same upper boundary as non-FreeBSD, but Ver3.10 through Ver4.00 Update 4 are not affected. The affected range resumes at Ver4.00 Update 5. Compare full product labels and Update numbers, not a shortened numeric version.
The published vectors say local access, low privileges, low complexity and no user interaction:
- CVSS v4.0 8.5 High:
CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N - CVSS v3.0 7.8 High:
CVSS:3.0/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Both scores are secondary, attributed to JPCERT, and NVD status is Deferred. The reviewed sources do not establish an unauthenticated Internet route. JVN's "Critical" headline and the vendor's "urgent" label do not change these High scores.
What to do
- Confirm the platform, full build and historical statistics state on each serving installation. Include older copies and recovery images that could return to service.
- Download diagnostic information through the web administration route before updating or patching, where feasible. The vendor warns that repair can erase attack traces. Hash the export, record who collected it and when, and work on copies. Urgent containment may come first, but record the resulting gap.
- Apply Ver8.00 Update 5 (Apache httpd, Nginx and IIS outside FreeBSD) or Ver7.00 Update 6 (Apache httpd and Nginx on FreeBSD).
- Alternatively, obtain the vendor's statistics-processing file-replacement patch, which is also offered for end-of-life versions. A file replacement may not change the version label, so ask the vendor for proof it is applied.
- As a temporary measure, JPCERT/CC says disabling statistics avoids the vulnerability's effect. Use the vendor's procedure and verify the effective setting. This does not clear earlier activity.
- Investigate separately for earlier compromise. The post suggests joining EDR or process audit data (Windows 4688 or Sysmon event 1, if enabled and retained) to authentication and change records. It labels these as its own hypotheses, not vendor signatures. Missing telemetry is a gap, not a clean result.
Caveats
- The sources conflict on exploitation. CISA's SSVC 2.0.3 entry (16 October 2026) says exploitation "none", automatable "no", technical impact "total". There is no CISA KEV match in the catalogue dated 16 October 2026, retrieved 19 October. The vendor and JVN still confirm exploitation, and the post treats that as controlling.
- FIRST EPSS on 18 October 2026 is 0.662% over 30 days (50.662nd percentile). It does not indicate whether a given host is already compromised.
- The vendor says it notified direct-support customers on 29 September 2026. That is not a first-exploitation date.
- The notices do not publish the trigger input, endpoint, process or file names, patch hashes, diagnostic schema, actor or victim count. No CVE-specific IOCs or public reproduction were found.
- The post's host checks were reviewed against documentation and not run on a SiteGuard host.
