Revisiting Accountability in Accountable Tracing Signatures
Revisiting Accountability in Accountable Tracing Signatures is a November 2026 IACR ePrint paper by Rei Naito, Kyoichi Asano and Keita Emura. It defines accountability soundness: no two witnesses may certify one user as both traceable and non-traceable. It shows the Kohlweiss-Miers scheme (PoPETs 2015) admits conflicting witnesses and proposes a patched scheme. It also covers attacks on the lattice-based scheme of Ling et al. (CT-RSA 2019) and the isogeny-based scheme of Shaw-Dutta (Indocrypt 2021), which the authors say fall outside the original security models.
TL;DR Shows the Kohlweiss-Miers accountable tracing signature scheme lets conflicting witnesses be issued for one user, and patches it.
