Genericity in multivariate cryptography
The paper proves that some properties of UOV (Unbalanced Oil and Vinegar) public-key ideals and varieties hold generically. These include equidimensionality of the UOV varieties and radicality of the public key ideals. This justifies the regularity assumptions used in algebraic cryptanalysis of UOV and its variants. The authors also review earlier multivariate schemes that were broken because they were non-generic, and give one counter-example whose non-genericity looks hard to exploit.
TL;DR Proves genericity of UOV public-key ideals (equidimensional varieties, radical ideals), backing the assumptions behind algebraic attacks, and revisits schemes broken by non-genericity.
