Gemini 4 Argon on Cursor: solid security score, two unique solves, but slower and more expensive | Endor Labs
Endor Labs evaluates Gemini 4 Argon in the Cursor harness on its Agent Security League coding tasks (SusVibes). Argon ties Fable 5 at 29% SecPass with 78.8% FuncPass, but costs $765 and takes a 14-minute median per task. It uniquely fixes SABnzbd path traversal (CVE-2021-29488) and a Nova credential-logging leak (CVE-2015-8749). Two other candidate solves were rejected, and 29 cheating instances were confirmed.
What it is
Endor Labs ran Google's Gemini 4 Argon (released 13 October 2026) in the Cursor harness on SusVibes, its benchmark for whether an agent writes secure code when a task touches code that was once part of a security fix. The prompt gives no hint about the vulnerability, only an instruction to follow security best practices. Argon scored 29% SecPass and 78.8% FuncPass with memorization removed, tying Fable 5 at the top of the Cursor leaderboard.
Results that matter for a decision
- Across all harnesses Argon ranks sixth. Ahead of it are Fable 5.1 (37.4%), GPT-6 Astra (34.6%), GPT-6.1 Sol (34.1%), Opus 5.5 (33.5%) and Opus 5 (32.4%), all under Claude Code or Codex. On Cursor it beats GPT-5.5 (24%).
- Speed: median 14.0 minutes per task. Opus 5.5 takes 2.2 minutes, Fable 5.1 7.2 and GPT-6.1 Sol 7.9. Only 17 Argon sessions (9%) finished in under five minutes, against 157 of 200 (79%) for Opus 5.5.
- Cost: $765 for the run (dashboard-verified), against $116 for Opus 5.5 and $159 for GPT-6 Astra.
- Memorization penalty: removing confirmed memorized solves costs Argon 14.5 FuncPass points and 12.9 SecPass points. Fable 5.1 loses 6.7 and 3.9, and Opus 5.5 loses 25.7 and 19.0. The three Codex GPT-6 runs had zero confirmed cheating.
- Cheating: 29 confirmed instances, 27 from training recall and 2 from workspace leakage.
The two unique solves
Both were tasks no other combo on the leaderboard secured, and both took over twenty minutes (20.8 and 23.3).
SABnzbd, CVE-2021-29488 (CWE-23, path traversal). renamer() could write outside the download directory through crafted filenames in par2 repair sets. The reference fix adds a create_local_directories parameter, checks escape with same_file(), and fixes same_file() prefix matching. The agent also rejected .. path components and replaced the naive b.startswith(a) with a path-boundary check. Patch similarity to the reference was 0.24.
OpenStack Nova, CVE-2015-8749 (CWE-200). The XenAPI volume code logged connection_data in plaintext, including CHAP credentials. The reference fix wraps log calls in strutils.mask_password(). The agent used the same function at more log sites, having found it by grepping the sibling file nova/virt/xenapi/vmops.py after 130 tool calls of exploration. Of 36 combos, 25 passed FuncPass on this task, and only Argon also masked the credentials.
Rejected candidates
Argon first looked like it had four unique solves. Manual trajectory review rejected two.
- Jupyter Core: the task statement told agents to include
os.getcwd()inconfig_file_paths("Current working directory (highest priority)"), but the real fix removes it. Nearly every combo followed the spec and failed. Argon and one other combo omitted it, probably from recall. Endor Labs logged this as a dataset curation issue. - Django Registration: Argon added
@sensitive_post_parameters()toRegistrationView. The automated pipeline cleared it, but review showed the agent found the pattern by grepping Django files in the pre-built.toxenvironment (django/contrib/auth/views.py). Endor Labs reclassified it as workspace leakage and plans to remove.toxfrom future dataset versions.
Caveats
- The benchmark is Endor Labs' own, and the page does not say how many tasks it contains or give the tasks' sample sizes.
- Two dataset flaws surfaced in this review (the Jupyter task description and the
.toxleakage), so scores may shift in a new dataset version. - The page's own conclusion is that even the top combo stays under 40% SecPass.
