TCP Use-After-Free: CVE-2026-98432 / CVSS 9.8

CVE-2026-98432 is a use-after-free in the Linux IPv4 TCP handshake, rated CVSS 3.1 9.8 and reachable by a remote unauthenticated peer on kernels back to 4.4. The post lists fixed stable releases (October 2026) and distribution patch status as of 31 October 2026, plus kernel and MPTCP listener checks. It gives interim nftables and iptables rules that drop IPv4 packets carrying options, and notes Anthropic's claim that Claude wrote a working exploit.

New Android SMS of Death exploit can remotely crash unpatched phones

CVE-2026-58882, "SMS of Death", is a zero-click Android denial-of-service flaw in WapPushOverSms.decodeWapPdu, where an unchecked header-length value becomes negative and triggers a NegativeArraySizeException that crashes com.android.phone. A malformed eight-byte WAP Push message to port 2948 can drop calls, including emergency calls, and about 20 messages caused reboot loops. A PoC is public. Google patched Android 14 through 17 in October 2026, but Android 12 and 13 remain vulnerable.

Critical Linux kernel flaw allows remote root attacks on MPTCP servers

CVE-2026-98432 is a use-after-free race condition in the Linux kernel IPv4 TCP code (tcp_v4_syn_recv_sock, ireq_opt), affecting kernels back to 4.4 and rated 9.8 by the kernel CVE team (Red Hat rates it 5.9). Anthropic researchers say an unreleased Claude model built an exploit that bypassed KASLR and got remote root on an MPTCP listener in about 53 minutes. The article lists distro patch status and CIQ's nftables mitigation for IP options; disabling MPTCP alone does not help. No in-the-wild exploitation is reported.

An unreleased internal Claude research model built five attack chains: Chrome sandbox escape (V8 heap bug, CacheStorage race, FedCM use-after-free), a Safari same-origin policy bypass, data extraction from a locked Pixel 9 over USB, a Windows QUIC kernel crash (CVE-2026-33096) and zero-click Linux root via multipath TCP (CVE-2026-98432). Anthropic says all flaws are fixed, including 62 Chrome CVEs as of Chrome 156. The post notes the chains are not independently reproduced.

No CVE or technical root cause is given.

CISA Adds Two Known Exploited Vulnerabilities to Catalog

CISA added two PHP vulnerabilities to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog on 26 October 2026: CVE-2026-109618 (memory corruption) and CVE-2026-109619 (stale internal request state). It also updated its PHP alert on critical vulnerabilities requiring immediate patching. The alert restates BOD 26-04, which requires federal civilian agencies to prioritize fast remediation of KEV CVEs on exposed assets and to check for prior compromise.

Socket post on why fixing the eMudhra weak-key intermediate CA incident (October 2026) and Brotli memory corruption CVE-2026-111497 takes more than updating Node.js. Bundled Brotli copies in Bun, Python Requests and .NET, Go binaries needing rebuilds, and per-program certificate stores all leave stale copies. PHP2Shell Exploitation Moves From Probes to Working Shells

PHP2Shell exploitation (CVE-2026-109618, CVE-2026-109619) reached working shells on 24 October 2026, when Perplexity researcher Adel Karimi's honeypots (PHP 8.4.26, Apache mod_php, single worker) logged 35 shells across three servers. Attackers used a four-stage HTTP chain: memory exhaustion, memory leak, then shell command execution, matching a public PoC. No second-stage payload was seen, and CISA had not added the flaws to KEV as of 26 October.

CVE-2026-106173 is a critical (CVSS 9.4) unauthenticated arbitrary file write in FortiSIEM's phQueryMaster gRPC service on port 27918/TCP. The SendQueryResult method builds a path from the query-id parameter without validation, so "../" sequences escape the directory and a null byte drops the appended filename and extension. Overwriting /opt/charting/redishb.sh, which runs every 60 seconds, gives remote command execution. Horizon3.ai published the analysis and a PoC.
