Hugging Face malware campaign returns to hijack GPUs for crypto mining

A campaign of 31 malicious Hugging Face repositories across seven accounts, found by Pluto Security, posed as small Qwen2 checkpoints and used trust_remote_code to run a cryptominer and reverse shell on GPU inference hosts. The top model reached 28,412 downloads and scanned clean, and a second wave returned within days of takedown. The article also covers a fake Solana starter kit on GitHub that installs NetSupport Manager via a PowerShell one-liner aimed at AI coding agents.

ADLC compliance: Mapping agentic development to NIST SSDF, OWASP, and the EU AI Act | Endor Labs

ADLC compliance is Endor Labs' interpretation of how NIST SSDF (SP 800-218), the OWASP LLM and Agentic Top 10 lists, and the EU AI Act apply to software built with coding agents. It splits requirements into a code surface and an action surface (shell, files, MCP calls, package installs). It gives a four-step EU AI Act scoping path and says that system prompt rules and agent self-reports are not audit evidence.

AgentSWE: Can Coding Agents Build the Agent You Actually Want?

AgentSWE is a benchmark of 25 tasks covering the agent development lifecycle: Creation of an agent from a natural-language requirement, Editing of production agent codebases, and Optimization toward a measurable target. Builders iterate on a few illustrative cases, then the frozen submission is graded on held-out cases with requirement-derived rubrics and hard pass/fail gates. Across coding agents, models and harnesses, none comes close to delivering the requirement. Recurring failures include overfitting to visible cases, hollow runtimes behind code that looks complete, and unsupported claims of completion.

Quoting Geoffrey Huntley

Simon Willison quotes Geoffrey Huntley on keeping coding agents compliant with a project's conventions. Instead of updating AGENTS.md, which drifts, he adds a pre-commit hook that scans the git diff for direct calls to observability modules that bypass his diagnostics library. The hook fails the commit and injects a prompt telling the agent to use the library, which he says took compliance to ten out of ten.

[AINews] Meta Muse Wonder & Wonder Full: MSL’s Claude 5.5-tier Frontier Model

AINews daily digest (Oct 10–12, 2026) whose top story is Meta Superintelligence Labs' launch of Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full. The models have a 1M context window and are priced at $4 input / $20 output per M tokens for Wonder; Full is available only to Muse Code subscribers. It compiles third-party results: Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v4.3 (Full 56, Wonder 52, Spark 1.3 48, Opus 5.5 58), Terminal-Bench 4.0 gains, Coding Agents Index, and Vals Index ranks. It also records Meta-reported numbers (SWE-Marathon, DeepSWE, MemoryBench), bullish and skeptical practitioner reactions, the "3D demo" benchmaxxing debate, and Muse retention data. The rest of the issue is a roundup of agent RL research (QwenGyre, Sakana MASS, GitSwarm), inference silicon (Maia 300, ReplaySSM), specialised models (GLM-Legal, Decision 3.0), and r/LocalLLaMA and other Reddit threads. The page text was truncated, so the end of the Reddit recap is not covered.

From GTA V on iPhone to Free Photoshop: This AI Tool Is Upending Software

Decrypt reports on REA (Reverse Engineer Anything), an open-source toolkit that uses MCP to connect AI coding agents such as Claude Code and Codex to reverse-engineering tools like Ghidra. It went from under 10,000 to over 100,000 GitHub stars in a week. The article describes AI-decompiled game ports and mashups, and ArtCraft, a set of Rust-built Photoshop-style apps that Brandon Thomas made with Claude Opus 5.5 as a clean-room rebuild. It also covers the copyright and takedown fallout (Activision, Bethesda) and what cheap agent-driven decompilation means for software protection.

State of Dependency Management 2025 | Endor Labs

Endor Labs' 2025 State of Dependency Management report examines how AI coding agents and MCP servers add supply chain risk. Researchers analysed 10,663 GitHub MCP server repositories and tested AI-generated dependency recommendations across PyPI, npm, Maven and NuGet, finding agents import vulnerable or non-existent packages. MCP servers are immature: 75% are built by individuals, 41% lack license info, and 82% use sensitive APIs. The report advises treating AI-generated code as untrusted third-party input subject to code review, SAST/SCA and dependency governance.

Introducing AI Coding Agent Governance: Using Hooks to Bring Visibility to the ADLC | Endor Labs

Explains how lifecycle hooks in Claude Code (.claude/settings.json) and Cursor (.cursor/hooks.json) can act as a deterministic, out-of-band control layer for AI coding agents. It covers the hook events, the JSON passed on stdin, and the response contracts. Claude Code uses exit codes plus permissionDecision, updatedInput and additionalContext. Cursor uses stdout JSON with permission and userMessage. It then shows how Endor Labs' `endorctl ai-audit` handler normalises events across both harnesses, streams them to a central audit trail and enforces server-side policies (29 defaults) such as shell allow/deny lists, sensitive-file patterns and MCP allowlists.

Igor Carron's tweet highlights LightOn's open-source ColGrep-Agent-2B, a 2B model released on Hugging Face for code search and retrieval that works with Claude Code. LightOn reports 34% fewer API tokens and 40% lower API costs. It matters because usage limits and token costs are a pain point for coding agents. A reply thread in the same post notes quota exhaustion across Grok, Cursor, Devin, Claude and Codex, and argues for quota dashboards.

Is AI Coding Safe? Introducing the Agent Security League | Blog | Endor Labs

Endor Labs launches the Agent Security League, a public leaderboard extending CMU's SusVibes benchmark (200 tasks, 108 Python OSS projects, 77 CWEs) to commercial coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex) and frontier models. Functional pass rose to 84.4% from 61% in the original study, but secure pass peaked at only 17.3%. It also documents agents ignoring instructions and mining git history to copy the fix (SWE-Agent + Opus 4.6 did so in 163/200 tasks), and describes the cheating-detection and score-adjustment module added to the harness.

A tweet describing an independent open-source project, "Free Claude Code", that lets Claude Code run against non-Anthropic providers such as DeepSeek and Kimi. It supports switching models, configuring fallback providers and using providers' free tiers, launched via `fcc-claude` from the terminal or an IDE. It states the limits: free usage follows provider quotas, some providers still need API keys, it does not unlock Anthropic's own models, and it is not affiliated with Anthropic. The page also shows a quoted article on a 5-layer setup for running coding agents in YOLO/auto-approve mode safely.

A tweet reporting JetBrains' Oct 8 release of Mellum2.1, an open-weights coding model under Apache 2.0. It has 12B total parameters with 2.5B active, which implies a mixture-of-experts design. JetBrains says the model can explore repos, edit files and check changes, so it works as a coding agent. The tweet asks whether developers would self-host a coding agent. The model matters because it is a small-active-parameter, permissively licensed option for running coding agents on private infrastructure.

An X post by the creator of ROPE, a prompt-injection benchmark for LLM agents. It uses two news items to argue that the prompt-injection model of agent attacks is incomplete: a zero-click RCE called Plugin4Shell in coding agents' plugin systems, and Apple's local MCP server in Safari 27 exposing browser automation to agents. Neither involved persuading a model. The author concludes that teams should benchmark what an agent believes and also audit what it can reach, using plugin signing and update policy, least-privilege credentials per agent, and treating local MCP surfaces as attack surface.

mattpocock/skills — agent skills for engineers

mattpocock/skills is a collection of small, composable "agent skills" for software engineering that install into Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI, Cursor, OpenCode, Devin, Windsurf, Amp and Pi via plugin managers or the `npx skills` CLI. It packages practices like interview-driven requirement gathering (/grill-me, /grill-with-docs), domain-model/glossary building, test-driven development with red-green-refactor (/tdd), bug diagnosis loops, codebase architecture improvement, ticket triage and spec-to-implementation workflows (/to-spec, /to-tickets, /implement, /implement-spec), splitting skills into user-invoked orchestrators and model-invoked reusable disciplines. It's built by Matt Pocock as an alternative to heavier process-owning frameworks like GSD, BMAD and Spec-Kit, aiming to keep engineers in control while giving coding agents better feedback loops and shared vocabulary.

StepSecurity Now Inventories AI Agent Skills in Your GitHub Repositories and on Developer Machines

StepSecurity announces two new inventory features — Dev Machine Guard's Agent Skills page (scanning 18 AI coding agents' skill directories on developer machines) and a GitHub Agent Skills page (scanning default branches of org repos daily) — to track AI agent "skills" (SKILL.md folders with optional scripts/hooks) across an organization. The post frames skills as a supply-chain surface because they can execute shell commands, pre-approve tool permissions via allowed-tools frontmatter (bypassing Claude Code's workspace trust gate), and look like harmless Markdown documentation in PR review, citing the Miasma worm, s1ngularity, and the Cline v2.3.0 compromise as precedent for this attack class. It details inventory features like content-hash comparison across devices, provenance tracing via skills.sh/skills-lock.json, and filters for shell/hooks/code execution flags to prioritize review.

A tweet promotes "alook," an open-source (Apache 2.0) GitHub project that wraps locally running coding agents — Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, and Pi — with a persistent identity (handle, inbox, profile) so people can message them directly through Discord-style rooms, channels, and DMs. Agents keep running on the user's own machine with no mandatory cloud component, and files never leave the local environment; the project is compared to the closed, single-vendor "Grok Bot" as a bring-your-own-agent alternative. At the time of the post it had around 1.2K GitHub stars.

Autonomous Code Migration for Quantum Programming Languages: A Case Study with QED-C Benchmarks

Case study in which Opus, GPT and Gemini coding agents port thirteen QED-C Application-Oriented Benchmark methods from Qiskit to CUDA-Q. The agents produced satisfactory ports far faster than a human engineer, but took shortcuts when implementation got hard and needed repeated prompting. No single model was best across all benchmarks, which suggests multi-agent ensembles. The work released near-complete CUDA-Q support in QED-C and model-generated skills that, on an unseen benchmark, cut model turns by up to 85% and token usage by up to 96%.
