PHP security scare puts Sri Lankaโ€™s digital systems under scrutiny

Lanka Business Online reports on CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, two critical PHP flaws allowing unauthenticated remote code execution. Sri Lanka's Ministry of Digital Economy told state bodies to check their systems, as over 70% of government sites reportedly use PHP. Research on 22 to 24 October 2026 found 80 state-linked sites on potentially vulnerable versions, 61 of them unsupported. Patches came out on 21 October 2026.

Chainalysis discloses data breach from "offensive agentic techniques"

Chainalysis disclosed a security incident in which an external actor used "offensive agentic techniques" to access internal systems and tools earlier in the month. Exposed customer data includes user IDs, names, email addresses and organizational role labels. The company reports no evidence of access to investigation content, credentials or session tokens, and has shared no details on the vulnerabilities, tools or dwell time. The article also lists other incidents from the same week.

Passkeys Are Better Than Passwords. But They Are Not Enough.

Opinion piece arguing that passkeys, built on public-key cryptography, resist phishing, credential stuffing and password theft but do not settle identity risk. Attackers can go around them through account enrollment before a passkey is bound, weaker recovery paths (SMS, email link, help desk), device changes and authenticated session hijacking. It proposes layering identity threat detection with risk-based, continuous evaluation of trust.

Binance hack: how a compromised developer laptop can lead to a $6.3 billion breach

Aikido Security's analysis of the roughly $6.3 billion Binance incident, which Binance says may have started with a compromised DevOps engineer's laptop. It sets out what is known (no private key leak, TraderTraitor attribution by TRM Labs and Chainalysis, additional breach points) and a plausible chain from laptop credentials to a withdrawal service. It compares the 2025 Bybit theft and lists mitigations.

$2 Million+ Drained From Polymarket Traders in New Supply Chain Attack

Polymarket halted trading on 29 October after users reported unauthorized withdrawals traced to malicious JavaScript served from DebugBear's real user monitoring snippet. Hudson Rock's sample abused the authenticated session to sell positions or send tokens to a hard-coded address, without exfiltrating credentials. Loss estimates range from $2.19 million to $2.71 million (GoPlus), and Polymarket pledged reimbursement.

Binance probes potential $5.8 billion crypto-theft hack

Binance is investigating a possible breach involving up to $5.8 billion in assets, which would exceed the $1.5 billion Bybit theft of February 2025. Tether froze over $1.567 billion in USDT and Circle over $800 million in USDC. Arkham tracks 55 addresses labelled "binance-hacker-1029" holding about $5.78 billion, but that is wallet holdings, not a confirmed theft amount. The cause is not yet known.

Content Providers and the potential weak spots they can have | Oversecured Blog

Oversecured's Android security checklist for Content Providers covers insecure FileProvider path configs, path traversal via decoded Uri.getLastPathSegment(), mismatched readPermission/writePermission, proxying requests to more privileged providers, SQL injection across a shared database, and sensitive actions in providers. Each case has vulnerable manifest and Java code, an attacker PoC and remediation. Real cases from Google and Samsung devices are cited. The page text was truncated near the end.

OpenAI Proves ETH Is False, and Crypto Twitter Has Questions

Decrypt reports that OpenAI published a 67-page paper (dated 17 October 2026, revised 25 October) claiming its AI found a deterministic subexponential-time algorithm for counting 3-SAT solutions, which would refute the Exponential Time Hypothesis. The proof was formalized in Lean. Impagliazzo, Paturi and Ryan Williams are reviewing it independently and say this is not certification. Anthropic posted a Claude-credited 3-SAT paper on 26 October.

Ethereum fixes Glamsterdam bug that could have sent staking deposits to builders

Glamsterdam deposit bug: Ethereum developers merged a consensus-spec fix on 26 October 2026 for a flaw in the upcoming upgrade. An operator could register as a builder under a public key, then a staking service's validator deposit under the same key would be credited to the builder, so no validator is created and funds are unrecoverable. Pending deposits are now sorted by withdrawal credentials. No losses were reported, and client teams still have to implement the change.

Names, contact details, delivery addresses and purchase records were exposed, but not payment data, recovery phrases or keys. China APT Uses AI Pentest Tool Artex in ConnectWise Attacks

Storm-0940, a China-linked APT, used the open source AI penetration testing framework Artex to automate a mid-October 2026 campaign against ConnectWise customers, per Microsoft. Artex drove reconnaissance, password spraying and OAuth application abuse at more than 2,900 attempts per minute, with sign-in attempts against over 2,250 tenants. Attackers modified application credentials for persistence, and Microsoft advises correlating service principal sign-ins with Graph activity.

Major Banks Find Rogue AI Agents Inside Customer Accountsโ€”And Theyโ€™re 'Horrified'

Decrypt summarizes an Axios report that major U.S. banks are finding unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, often using the customer's own credentials. Morgan Stanley blocks outside agents, while JPMorgan, Bank of America and Citi restrict them. Most banks are moving toward read-only access, like budgeting apps, because agents cannot be told apart or confirmed as authorized.

The payload was a .pth file that ran at Python startup and sent cloud credentials, private keys and AI dev-tool auth files to an attacker endpoint. The author lists five agent-builder defences: hash-locked pins, capped per-tool keys, a release cooling period, keeping secrets away from Python startup, and outbound traffic monitoring.

Proving Humanity

Galaxy research report arguing that CAPTCHAs and behavioral bot detection (reCAPTCHAv3, Cloudflare Turnstile) are failing as AI agents reproduce human conduct, for example ChatGPT Agent clicking through Turnstile's checkbox. It shows that Web Bot Auth signatures and Google's AP2 mandates identify the platform or account key but not a distinct person. It proposes reframing "proving humanity" as ensuring every agent traces to one person counted once, covering Sybil, one-person-one-share, accountability and public-count harms. It lays out requirements for a proof-of-personhood credential: strong, private, portable, delegable and accessible. It deliberately does not evaluate specific projects.

Proving Humanity

Galaxy Research essay arguing that as AI agents become the main way people use the web, the key question shifts from "is this a machine?" to "is a distinct real person behind it, counted once?". It traces CAPTCHA history (distorted text, image puzzles, reCAPTCHAv3 and Turnstile behavioral scoring) and notes ChatGPT Agent passing Cloudflare's checkbox. It reviews Web Bot Auth signatures and Google's AP2 payment mandates, showing both stop at the platform or key and never establish a person. It then covers harms (one-person-one-share abuse, no one to answer for an agent, distorted public counts, collapsing confidence, scaled deception, broken ad economics) and lists the properties a privacy-preserving proof-of-personhood credential needs: strong, private, portable, delegable, accessible.
