A campaign of 31 malicious Hugging Face repositories across seven accounts, found by Pluto Security, posed as small Qwen2 checkpoints and used trust_remote_code to run a cryptominer and reverse shell on GPU inference hosts. The top model reached 28,412 downloads and scanned clean, and a second wave returned within days of takedown. The article also covers a fake Solana starter kit on GitHub that installs NetSupport Manager via a PowerShell one-liner aimed at AI coding agents.

Socket reports on a GitHub issue for OpenCode, opened 28 June, describing a bypass of per-IP usage limits on its free hosted models by switching VPN addresses. The reporter first proposed account-based limits, then reopened the issue in August to promote the workaround and claimed to run 130 agents. After the thread drew harassment and was deleted in October 2026, it is unclear whether OpenCode fixed the bypass.

GitHub reported 7.4 billion commits per month in September 2026, up from 2.9 billion in August and 1.4 billion in April, which it attributes mostly to agentic demand. It has added 4 million CPU cores, 160 PB of storage and 50 Tb/s of network capacity this year, mostly on Azure. It is also rearchitecting to separate compute and storage, with internal benchmarks showing up to 35x higher write throughput.

Merged pull requests tripled in under a year to 220 million per month, commits passed 7.38 billion per month, and new repositories doubled to 30.3 million per month. It quotes the methodology for country, industry (NAICS) and "interoperability or reverse engineering" repository counts. The post does not analyse the report beyond these figures.

Post about the "Steal My Bitcoin" bounty, a 0.025 BTC (about $2,025) prize that was swept early Monday, about 90 minutes after researcher @killa published a full exploit on GitHub. The exploit is a heap exploit written for the target's PHP build. It leaks memory addresses through session cookies and forces PHP cleanup to run the flag binary. The first solve looked like a failure because the pulled key did not control the advertised address, a planting mistake the creator admitted by email.

Gheist is a GitHub campaign disclosed by Wiz in October 2026. Stolen tokens push ci-sync-XXXXXX branches with a sync-check workflow that dumps repo secrets base32-encoded to evade log masking, fetches the logs via API, then deletes the run. 13,500+ branches and 850+ accounts were hit since 15 September. Gheist is a campaign tracked by Wiz Research since 15 September 2026 that uses stolen GitHub tokens to push a sync-check workflow on ci-sync-* branches in every reachable repository.
