How We Took Over ChatGPT Accounts

Simon Willison summarises Parameter Labs' ChatGPT account takeover chain against the HTML previews (formerly Canvas) sandboxed iframe. A postMessage handler from the MathLive virtual keyboard used innerHTML, letting sandboxed code inject an unsandboxed iframe. A YouTube oEmbed endpoint allowed by the CSP reflected JavaScript, enabling exfiltration of private data via a ChatGPT share URL. OpenAI fixed it and paid a $5,000 bounty.

Chainalysis security breach exposed customer data and raised phishing risk

Chainalysis confirmed on 30 October 2026 that an external actor accessed its systems and internal tools earlier in October, using what it called "offensive agentic techniques". Exposed data covers some customers' names, emails, job titles, user IDs and role labels. Chainalysis says it has found no access to passwords, session tokens or investigation content so far, and customers should expect targeted phishing. Affected-customer counts and the exploited vulnerabilities are not disclosed.

Northflank security breach leads to abuse of customers' AI API keys

Northflank, a cloud application hosting platform, disclosed a breach on 30 October 2026 after a Wiz threat alert and told customers to assume all environment variables were decrypted and to rotate secrets. Customers reported unauthorized use of AI API keys. Wiz's "Black October for AI Developer Platforms" report counts at least nine incidents, including Railway, OpenCode, Warp and Lightning AI, and describes LLMJacking, with about 2.5 million Amazon Bedrock calls costing roughly $100,000 in two cases. Northflank has not said how attackers got in.

Agents Prompt People: Using Agents for Long-Horizon Financial Work

Latent Space podcast write-up of an AI Engineer New York interview with Aman Singh, lead AI Engineer at Arca, an AI-native wealth management firm. Arca runs agent tasks lasting up to ten days, uses a per-client memory system, and owns its harness, which routes tasks to models (mainly Claude) by internal benchmarks. New Android SMS of Death exploit can remotely crash unpatched phones

CVE-2026-58882, "SMS of Death", is a zero-click Android denial-of-service flaw in WapPushOverSms.decodeWapPdu, where an unchecked header-length value becomes negative and triggers a NegativeArraySizeException that crashes com.android.phone. A malformed eight-byte WAP Push message to port 2948 can drop calls, including emergency calls, and about 20 messages caused reboot loops. A PoC is public. Google patched Android 14 through 17 in October 2026, but Android 12 and 13 remain vulnerable.

Twelve DeFi websites, including Flap, Kintsu, Pickle Finance and Origami Finance, were hijacked on 30 October 2026 and served the Step Drainer kit. All 12 domains use Name.com as registrar, and 10 were suspended. The Block traced about $138,000 stolen to three EVM wallets, excluding Solana and Aptos losses. Kintsu and Origami blame Vercel. Critical Linux kernel flaw allows remote root attacks on MPTCP servers

CVE-2026-98432 is a use-after-free race condition in the Linux kernel IPv4 TCP code (tcp_v4_syn_recv_sock, ireq_opt), affecting kernels back to 4.4 and rated 9.8 by the kernel CVE team (Red Hat rates it 5.9). Anthropic researchers say an unreleased Claude model built an exploit that bypassed KASLR and got remote root on an MPTCP listener in about 53 minutes. The article lists distro patch status and CIQ's nftables mitigation for IP options; disabling MPTCP alone does not help. No in-the-wild exploitation is reported.

President Trump says theyโ€™re looking into Binance hack as calls grow for crypto rules

Co-CEO Richard Teng said a compromised DevOps engineer's laptop gave access to a service container used to submit unauthorized withdrawals, and TRM Labs attributed the theft to North Korea's TraderTraitor. The rest covers reactions: President Trump said on 30 October he was looking into it, CFTC Chair Michael Selig and The Digital Chamber urged federal exchange rules, and senators disputed whether the Clarity Act would have allowed freezes.

Polymarket Sends $3.9M Back to Traders After Vendor Script Drain

Polymarket's international site was hit on 29 October 2026 when a page-speed monitoring script served from DebugBear's CDN was replaced with a drainer. It hijacked logged-in sessions for about an hour and took $2.7M from 726 wallets via Polymarket's relayer. Scott Helme of Report URI says the CSP allowlisted every domain used and that hash pinning would have blocked the swapped file. Polymarket is repaying $3.9M, and this is its second vendor-script compromise since June.

Was I wrong about open models & cyber risks?

Interconnects post in which Nathan Lambert revisits his claim that an open-weight Claude Mythos would have been survivable. He argues GLM-5.3 already crosses the capability threshold with little visible societal change, and quotes Rob Wiblin, Anthropic and Zvi Mowshowitz as examples of exaggerated warnings. He cites Epoch AI's Firefox exploit built with GLM-5.3, and treats the recent vulnerability surge as an ecosystem trend driven by AI capability and diffusion, not open versus closed models.

Binance Sets Aside $6.34B to Cover Hack Losses, CEO Says 'Your Assets Are Safe'

Decrypt reports on the October 2026 Binance hot-wallet hack, about $6.3 billion, which Binance CEO Richard Teng says the company will cover with over $6.34 billion of its own funds. Teng says the attacker used an EIP-7702 delegation that skipped Binance's approval controls, a self-destruct mechanism to wipe tooling, and more than one breach point beyond a compromised laptop. TRM Labs and Chainalysis attribute the theft to TraderTraitor, and the attacker is still moving funds on Tron.
