- How We Took Over ChatGPT Accounts
Simon Willison summarises Parameter Labs' ChatGPT account takeover chain against the HTML previews (formerly Canvas) sandboxed iframe. A postMessage handler from the MathLive virtual keyboard used innerHTML, letting sandboxed code inject an unsandboxed iframe. A YouTube oEmbed endpoint allowed by the CSP reflected JavaScript, enabling exfiltration of private data via a ChatGPT share URL. OpenAI fixed it and paid a $5,000 bounty.

Parameter Labs describes a chain that turned a public ChatGPT share link into JavaScript running as chatgpt.com in the victim's session. It combined a MathLive postMessage listener with no origin or source check, raw HTML in keyboard layouts, an unsandboxed srcdoc iframe, and a YouTube oEmbed JSONP callback to pass the CSP. The code read private conversations through backend APIs. OpenAI fixed it on 26 October 2026 and rated it P1.

Malicious Claude Code extension on Cursor planted SSH backdoorsA malicious version 2.1.313 of Anthropic's Claude Code extension was served from Cursor's marketplace for about 11 hours on 29 October 2026, reaching up to 5,000 developers. A JavaScript loader prepended to extension.js added an attacker SSH key, a reverse tunnel and macOS/Windows persistence, and reported to 134.209.82[.]225. Coding errors likely blocked SSH access on many hosts. Cursor removed it and rotated keys; victims should look for an 'svc-telemetry' SSH key.

HFS seeds Koa's keygrip session-signing key with V8's insecure, invertible Math.random() PRNG and separately leaks raw Math.random() outputs through an unauthenticated login endpoint; by sampling a dozen leaked outputs and feeding them to the Z3 SMT solver, an attacker can recover the xorshift128+ internal state, step it backwards to the process-start signing key, and forge an admin session cookie that leads to remote code execution via HFS's built-in admin JavaScript execution feature. An AI Alignment Forum post by Lukas Finnveden, Alexa Pan, Alek Westover, Girish Gupta, frisby and ryan_greenblatt arguing that latent reasoning architectures — models that reason in continuous/latent space rather than producing legible token-by-token chains of thought — would likely undermine chain-of-thought (CoT) monitoring, currently considered one of the strongest available tools for overseeing AI reasoning processes. The piece reasons through why such architectures could erode the interpretability and faithfulness properties that make CoT useful for safety oversight, as a concern for future model designs. The page itself (fetched without JavaScript) returned only metadata; the body argument was not retrievable.
alignmentforum.orgwriteupAdded 7 Oct 2026, published 23 Sep 2026🧠 AI - OAuth Token Theft Through Microsoft's Front Door | Huntress
Huntress researcher Andrew Schwartz demonstrates a novel OAuth token-theft technique: a sideloaded AppX package registered via Add-AppxPackage -Register (requiring only Developer Mode, no admin beyond that toggle) can set ContentUriRules WindowsRuntimeAccess="all" so attacker-controlled JavaScript rendered inside the Microsoft-signed WWAHost.exe process gets full WinRT access, including the legacy WebAuthenticationBroker OAuth API. Using Microsoft Office's own client ID and the oob redirect URI, the attacker triggers a genuine login.microsoftonline.com/MFA dialog with no browser chrome, captures the auth code, and exchanges it for an access token plus a long-lived refresh token carrying the full Office delegated Graph scope set (mail, files, Teams, directory, AuditLog.Create) — validated end-to-end against a live Entra ID tenant with MFA and default Conditional Access. The post frames it as a class of vulnerable signed AppX host binaries sharing the same WinRT activation layer, and provides a Sigma rule keyed on the MSAppHost/3.0 EdgeHTML user agent reaching non-Microsoft destinations, plus Sysmon/Event ID and GPO-based mitigations (restricting Developer Mode, Conditional Access, shorter refresh-token lifetimes, CAE).

AKCA is an open-source, Go-based Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST) scanner that combines HTTP and headless-browser crawling, JavaScript/AST analysis, API spec import (OpenAPI, GraphQL, gRPC, etc.), and adaptive active testing across a very broad set of vulnerability classes including SQL injection, XSS, SSRF, IDOR/BOLA, SSTI, JWT/OAuth flaws, race conditions, and cloud/CI exposure. It emphasizes evidence-oriented verification — replaying promising signals against baselines, negative controls, and OAST callbacks before promoting them to findings — and exports Burp-style HTTP evidence in HTML, JSON, CSV, Markdown, and SARIF reports. Positioned as a transparent, single-developer alternative inspired by but not claiming parity with Acunetix, Invicti/Netsparker, or Burp Suite Professional.

Socket: Two Joyfill npm Beta Releases Compromised to Deliver DEV#POPPER Remote Access TrojanSocket's research team found two beta releases of the @joyfill npm packages (@joyfill/layouts and @joyfill/components) contained an import-time JavaScript implant that resolves encrypted payloads through Tron, Aptos, and BNB Smart Chain transactions, ultimately dropping a 77KB Node.js remote-access trojan matching the DEV#POPPER family and sharing loader fingerprints with the PolinRider blockchain-loader campaign. The RAT establishes a Socket.IO C2 channel, executes arbitrary JS/shell commands, exfiltrates files and clipboard data, and persists by patching files inside VS Code, Cursor, Antigravity, Discord Desktop, GitHub Desktop, and the global npm CLI; a parallel detached-process branch fetches an additional bootstrap that can deploy a Python credential/browser-data stealer assessed as an OmniStealer variant. Because the implant fires on module load (not via npm lifecycle scripts), `--ignore-scripts` provides no protection, and the writeup includes full IOCs, blockchain addresses, C2 infrastructure, and MITRE ATT&CK mappings.
socket.devwriteupAdded 22 Sep 2026, published 20 Sep 2026🛡️ Security- A Defense of Gradual Disempowerment
A forum essay by Max Harms on the AI Alignment Forum arguing in favor of the "gradual disempowerment" thesis: the concern that advanced AI could erode human control over economic, political and cultural institutions incrementally — through humans being outcompeted or sidelined in decision-making and labor — rather than through a single dramatic takeover event. The post engages with existing critiques of this framing within the alignment community and makes a case for why gradual, diffuse loss of human agency deserves serious weight as a risk model alongside sudden-takeover scenarios. The page itself loaded with only metadata visible (title, author, date, comment count) since the site requires JavaScript, so the full argument could not be read directly.

PolinRider Spreads Through Compromised GitHub Accounts and PackagistSocket's Threat Research Team reports that the PolinRider campaign (linked to North Korea/DPRK operators) has spread malicious code into four dev-* branches of visanduma/nova-two-factor, a Packagist package with over 700,000 cumulative downloads, via a compromised GitHub account (LaHiRu) in the Visanduma organization. The post details the campaign's tradecraft — hiding payloads in .woff2 font files, using VS Code's "runOn": "folderOpen" task trigger, and a new technique inserting obfuscated JavaScript directly into index.php executed via PHP's shell_exec — and explains how Packagist/Go modules resolving code straight from Git repos lets planted source code reach downstream users without stolen registry credentials. It provides IOCs (package versions, wallet address, IPs, file hashes) and frames PolinRider as a slow, persistent Git-collaboration-based intrusion campaign primarily aimed at cryptocurrency theft.

WeaselBiscuit Strips BeaverTail and OtterCookie Down to EssentialsOpenSourceMalware researchers detail WeaselBiscuit, a newly discovered lightweight JavaScript infostealer found hidden in 11+ npm packages (e.g. process-tailwind, engin1, the @biz44 scope), which shares tradecraft with DPRK-linked BeaverTail/OtterCookie but strips out wallet-draining, password decryption, and remote-shell features. The writeup walks through the full infection chain - a package auto-running a detached Node loader, fetching a Base64-encoded second stage from Npoint dead-drop URLs, and beaconing to a hardcoded HTTP C2 (103.170.217.184:8787) - plus its capabilities (Chrome extension-storage theft, clipboard capture, Windows keylogging) and a campaign-cluster graph tying packages together via shared hashes and resolver URLs. Attribution to DPRK is explicitly labeled a tentative hypothesis rather than confirmed.

MassPIIFinder v2 is a Python recon tool that automates crawling a target's in-scope JavaScript (multi-hop HTML crawl, dynamic imports, chunk manifests, sourcemaps, plus optional passive CT-log subdomain discovery) and mines it for API keys, tokens, credentials, internal endpoints, and PII using ~90 named patterns plus a high-entropy freeform heuristic. Findings are validated offline (Luhn checks, JWT decode, AWS key-shape) and via scope-checked, rate-limited reachability probes, then triaged by severity and exported as JSON/HTML/SARIF/Markdown/CSV. It enforces authorization with a required --confirm-authorized flag and a ScopeGuard that blocks any out-of-scope requests, and explicitly avoids testing leaked keys against third-party providers or exploiting findings.

Anti-Pattern Avoidance: A Prompt Pattern for Safer AI-Generated Code | Blog | Endor LabsEndor Labs describes the "anti-pattern avoidance" prompt pattern: explicitly instructing an LLM to avoid named CWEs (e.g., CWE-89, CWE-20, CWE-200) when generating code, rather than just asking it to "write secure code." It shows a before/after JavaScript form-handling example where naming the CWEs causes the model to add input validation/sanitization, and cites an academic study showing this reduced weakness density by 64% in GPT-3 and 59% in GPT-4 versus baseline prompts.

ClearFake WebDAV infection chain delivers Amatera stealer, ZigCryptoStealer, and NetSupport ManagerCisco Talos reconstructs two related WebDAV-based infection chains (tracked actor UAT-10820) that use a ClickFix fake-CAPTCHA lure, EtherHiding on BNB Smart Chain to stage JavaScript via a malicious Cloudflare Worker, and WebDAV-delivered disguised DLLs executed via rundll32 ordinal calls to drop the Amatera stealer. Depending on the C2 configuration, Amatera then deploys either a NativeAOT-loaded ZigCryptoStealer with a BYOVD EDR-killer driver and a Go-based Yamux reverse proxy, or a PowerShell stager that installs a trojanized NetSupport Manager RAT pointed at Russian C2 infrastructure. The post details loader internals, Amatera's dead-drop C2 resolution via Telegraph and Steam, and provides ClamAV signatures plus a full IOC list.

Training a coding model to paint watercolours with TRL and OpenEnvA Hugging Face engineering blog post reproducing Surya Narreddi's viral "AI paints watercolours" project in the open: a coding LLM (Qwen3.5-35B-A3B, LoRA) is trained with GRPO via TRL to write p5.brush JavaScript sketches that render as watercolour flower paintings, using an OpenEnv RL environment with headless-Chromium rendering, an HPSv3 preference-model reward and a Qwen3-VL-30B-A3B-Instruct pairwise judge scored against a hand-curated 178-image reference pool. It documents the full pipeline (HF Jobs, Spaces, Inference Providers), the LoRA fix needed for MoE models (all-linear targeting), infra bugs found (an OpenEnv websocket caching bug fixed upstream, reward-noise from silent render failures), three reward-mix ablations, and open-sources the dataset, environment, training scripts, rollouts and trained models.
