It illustrates the gaps with a real incident where a compromised token was used to mass-clone repositories containing plaintext secrets, and shows how the same action (e.g. mass repo cloning) surfaces under different event names per platform (git.clone in GitHub, repository_git_operation in GitLab, RepositoryCloneEvent in Bitbucket Data Center).

Team PCP Stole 78,330 Secrets From 2,186 Organizations. CloudSEK Just Published the List.StepSecurity analyzes CloudSEK's newly published dataset on TeamPCP, a threat actor that compromised trusted open-source CI/CD components (Trivy GitHub Action, Checkmarx KICS action, telnyx PyPI package, LiteLLM) to harvest 78,330 secrets from 2,186 organizations' CI/CD pipelines across GitHub Actions, GitLab, and Azure DevOps in five days in March 2026. The post breaks down which platforms and credential types were exposed (GitLab led, 230+ Azure DevOps orgs, 157 leaked OpenAI keys) and maps layered CI/CD runtime controls (egress control, runner lockdown, imposter-commit detection, workflow policies) as mitigations against this class of attack.

Behind the GitLab RCE: A depthfirst Journey into the Ruby Ecosystem | depthfirstdepthfirst's Open Defense Initiative scanned about 40 Ruby gems with native C extensions and validated 105 vulnerabilities across 34 projects, which together have over 8.6 billion RubyGems downloads. The post walks through four cases: a Nokogiri 32/64-bit index truncation (CVE-2026-57235), an Oj garbage-collection use-after-free (CVE-2026-54902), a concurrent-ruby read/write lock bit overflow (CVE-2026-54905) and an sqlite3-ruby block lifetime bug (CVE-2026-54619). It also states that this work led to the earlier GitLab RCE chain through Oj.

Going depthfirst: Achieving GitLab RCE via Two Ruby Memory Corruption Vulnerabilities | depthfirstDepthfirst's research describes an RCE chain against GitLab CE/EE (versions 15.2.0 through 18.10.7, 18.11.0 through 18.11.4, and 19.0.0 through 19.0.1) built from two memory-corruption bugs in the Oj Ruby JSON gem, reachable through the ipynbdiff notebook-rendering feature. It walks through an out-of-bounds write that corrupts a parser callback pointer, a heap-pointer disclosure used to defeat ASLR, and the gadget chain that reaches system() as the git user, plus nine additional Oj CVEs found during the same review.

One Request to Own Every Repo: How We Hijacked GitLab Through Its MCP Server - Pluto SecurityPluto Security details two critical vulnerabilities in gitlab-mcp (@zereight/mcp-gitlab, 200K+ downloads), the most popular community GitLab MCP server. GHSA-cv3r-c5h8-f4g5 (CVSS 9.8) chains an unauthenticated SSE transport with the upload_markdown tool's unvalidated file_path to read /proc/self/environ and steal the server's GitLab Personal Access Token; GHSA-2h44-8472-frjj (CVSS 9.6) abuses the X-GitLab-API-URL header when ENABLE_DYNAMIC_API_URL=true to make the server attach its PAT to attacker-controlled hosts via SSRF. Both are fixed in v2.1.27 (SSE bearer-auth, non-root Docker, host allowlisting), and the writeup includes full attack commands, root-cause code, and a disclosure timeline.

CVE-2026-50027 describes a critical missing-authentication flaw in mcp-memory-service, a PyPI-hosted MCP server used for persistent AI agent memory. All routes under /api/documents/* bypass the server's MCP_API_KEY/OAuth authentication checks (unlike the properly-protected /api/memories endpoints), letting unauthenticated remote attackers read, write, and permanently delete stored memories. GitLab rates it CVSS 9.8 Critical.

Socket: Miasma Mini Shai-Hulud Hits ImmobiliareLabs npm PackagesSocket Threat Research documents a new wave of the Miasma Mini Shai-Hulud npm supply-chain campaign compromising @immobiliarelabs Backstage plugins for GitLab integration and LDAP authentication, published on June 26, 2026. The malicious tarballs (e.g. @immobiliarelabs/backstage-plugin-gitlab@7.0.2) add a hidden root-level index.js triggered via the "Phantom Gyp" node-gyp binding.gyp trick, which decrypts an AES-128-GCM payload, bootstraps Bun, and steals npm/GitHub/cloud/SSH/CI-CD secrets while planting GitHub Actions and AI-IDE persistence. The report also traces a plausible root cause to the earlier compromise of codfish/semantic-release-action (tag-hijacking reported by StepSecurity) and highlights abuse of GitHub's deployment event trigger β a technique flagged by researcher Adnan Khan β to run attacker workflows without touching protected workflow files.

Endor Labs: AURI AgentsEndor Labs announces AURI Agents, a free catalog of pre-configured security agents (SCA Remediation, AI SAST Triage, Probe Droid, Endor Troubleshooter and six more). They run inside Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and similar hosts, using the user's own LLM keys and git credentials (GitHub via gh, GitLab via glab). The open-source Endor Labs Agent Kit defines each agent as a YAML Source Recipe plus markdown instructions, compiles it into per-host artifacts, and ships a skill that helps users author new agents with eval cases. Endor claims expert agents finish tasks 2.8x faster with 92% fewer tokens than an unaugmented agent. Mutating actions require confirmation and most agents are read-only.

cicd-sensor is an open-source, eBPF-powered runtime security sensor ("EDR for CI/CD") for GitHub Actions and GitLab CI/CD that detects supply-chain attacks in-flight by watching process ancestry (e.g. credential access spawned from an npm install) and correlating signals across a job. It emits per-run logs, graphical reports, and build attestations routed to a self-hosted Manager and cloud sinks (S3, GCS, Azure Blob, Pub/Sub), positioning itself as the vendor-neutral open counterpart to commercial offerings like StepSecurity's Harden-Runner and GMO Flatt Security's Takumi Runner. Created by Hiroki Suezawa (@rung), author of the Common Threat Matrix for CI/CD Pipeline and an OWASP Top 10 CI/CD Security Risks contributor.

Orca Security: Securing Shadow AI: How to Detect Unapproved LLMs in Your CloudOrca Security outlines a detection framework for "shadow AI" β unsanctioned LLM usage via IDE extensions (Cursor), MCP servers, and embedded SaaS/CI-CD AI features that bypass traditional CASB/DLP tools because they ride on already-trusted OAuth tokens and API calls. The framework has three steps: mapping non-human identities and OAuth scope sprawl, auditing CI/CD pipelines and SaaS platforms for embedded AI (checklist includes scanning .env files, package manifests, GitHub Actions/GitLab CI/Jenkins steps, and outbound traffic to LLM endpoints), and assessing each tool by data exposure vs. write/action authority. It closes by promoting Orca's agentless AI-SPM capability for correlating identity, data, and workload context to surface these risks.
