ERC draft: Independent Simulation Result for (STVA)

ERC draft "Independent Simulation Result" (STVA) defines a canonical, content-addressed SimulationResult (success, gasUsed, returnData, stateDiffHash, logsHash, snapshotId, resultHash) that any wallet, hardware device or verifier can recompute from the same VerificationPayload and state snapshot. It targets compromised-frontend and UI/calldata-mismatch attacks, and defines Basic, Standard and Strict compliance levels. Open questions are stateDiff encoding, prestate proofs and binding to capability tokens.

Was I wrong about open models & cyber risks?

Interconnects post in which Nathan Lambert revisits his claim that an open-weight Claude Mythos would have been survivable. He argues GLM-5.3 already crosses the capability threshold with little visible societal change, and quotes Rob Wiblin, Anthropic and Zvi Mowshowitz as examples of exaggerated warnings. He cites Epoch AI's Firefox exploit built with GLM-5.3, and treats the recent vulnerability surge as an ecosystem trend driven by AI capability and diffusion, not open versus closed models.

Beyond the Event Horizon of Keccak extends a 2011 observation that a path in the Keccak sponge from a zero-capacity state back to one yields infinite second-preimage families. Three theorems cover loops from any capacity value x, k-block loops and cycles, and Joux-style multicollisions with search cost independent of k. Verified examples run on Keccak-f[200] and Keccak-f[1600] with c=32; it also proposes bridge-based protocols.

Does Chain-of-Thought Reliance Follow a Scaling Law?Larger Models Follow Their Steps More, Independent of Post-Training

This paper measures how much a model's final answer depends on its own written chain of thought, using a synthetic box-swap task with exact ground truth. It edits one step in the model's chain to a wrong but valid state and checks whether the answer follows. Across 25 open-weight models, reliance rises with size and saturates (Qwen3 from 16-18% at 0.6B to 97-100% at 14B). Reliance tracks capability (r = 0.99) and is unchanged by post-training.

My Credentials, Please: Detecting Filesystem Capability Laundering in MCP Servers at Scale

Studies "filesystem capability laundering" in MCP servers: client approval of a tool call grants the server process broad host filesystem access, so attacker-steered arguments can reach sensitive files outside the tool's declared contract. The authors build MCP-FSD, which infers per-tool least-privilege boundaries, plants credential fixtures outside them, and tests exploitability and sandbox containment by paired dynamic execution. Of 21,097 servers from nine registries, 16.4% of 4,806 triaged servers have filesystem capabilities despite non-filesystem classifications. Dynamic validation confirmed 150 vulnerable instances, and disclosure produced 13 advisories, including two CVEs in Anthropic's Git MCP Server.

Skill-Decoupled On-Policy Expert Distillation for Unified Vision-Language Models

Proposes SCOPED (Skill-Decoupled On-Policy Expert Distillation), which trains capability-specific RL experts for vision-language models. It extracts explicit skills from them through reward-guided reflection. During on-policy distillation the skills guide expert supervision but are hidden from the unified student, so the student internalizes the procedural knowledge and needs no explicit skills at inference. Across eight multimodal benchmarks it beats the backbone and mixed-capability RL. Analyses show cross-capability gradient interference in joint RL, and that skill augmentation gives more consistent expert trajectories, more attention to task-relevant visual evidence, and better preservation of expertise.

PROBE: Learning to Audit Policy Compliance in Tool-Using LLM Agents

PROBE (Policy Rule Observation via Behavioral Exploration) trains LLM-based auditors that act as realistic users and probe deployed tool-using agents for policy violations (pricing, privacy, confirmation, safety) across multi-turn, tool-mediated dialogue. It formalizes auditing as a two-player Markov game with a composite reward for violation discovery, plausibility, progress and policy diversity, and compares GRPO, DPO and GFlowNet optimization. Trained auditors find broader, higher-yield violations than zero-shot adversaries, even when much smaller than the target agent, positioning behavioral auditing as a distinct axis next to capability and safety benchmarks.

SecAgg++ is a masking-based secure aggregation protocol for single-server federated learning that swaps in post-quantum cryptographic primitives. It keeps the communication and computation efficiency of SecAgg and SecAgg+ and handles client dropout through an efficient recovery procedure built on secret sharing and additive masking. It matters because existing masking-based aggregation protocols are not post-quantum secure, so client model updates would be exposed to quantum-capable adversaries.

Qwen3.5-9B established inference on eight of nine hardware types using the Memento harness (built on the Pi coding agent). GLM-5.2 completed a simplified end-to-end replication across eight emulated Android nodes in four of five trials, and reached seven nodes in the fifth. Gemma4-26B-A4B was sharded by pipeline parallelism across 15 low-RAM Android TV boxes at 0.39 tokens/s. The authors estimate replication intervals of 1–2 days and a capability threshold around end of 2026, which makes it a concrete capability-evaluation datapoint for AI safety.

The gap in shared understanding of LLM capability is widening

Andrej Karpathy argues the gap in shared understanding of LLM capability is widening into a funnel: ~6B people barely touch LLMs, 1-2B use free-tier chatbots casually, ~20M professionals in math and code see agents finish weeks-long projects from a prompt, and ~5,000 people with internal frontier access see swarms of agents on software mega-projects. He attributes the funnel to problem ambition and scale, jagged capability (peaks in digital, verifiable, economically valuable domains because of RL on verifiable rewards), and access tier. It is a useful framing for why people talk past each other about AI progress.

AgentValve: Sybil-Resilient Payment Authorization for Permissionless AI Markets

AgentValve is a protocol for authorizing payments by AI agents in permissionless markets where adversaries can cheaply create Sybil identities and fake feedback to inflate provider reputation. It models reputation as finite capacity in a directed trust graph, and a smart contract atomically reserves capacity along trust paths for each admitted payment. This bounds honest agents' exposure to the capacity they extend into the adversarial region, and payment-backed capacity creation with bounded route length limits depletion attacks. A witness-commit mechanism makes on-chain route verification linear work with constant persistent state per payment. The prototype was evaluated on six months of Ethereum data and synthetic workloads with up to 10,000 Sybil identities. Exposure and depletion stayed bounded, admission cost fell by up to 40.8% against baselines, and common payments cost about $0.04–$0.21.

How to train your model organism

This paper argues that training "model organisms" (models deliberately given alignment-relevant behaviors like backdoors, sycophancy, or spurious correlations) to a single behavior-installation objective produces unrealistic test subjects for interpretability research. The authors propose a three-objective validation framework (behavior installation, general-capability preservation, output naturalness) and show chat quality and chain-of-thought naturalness degrade substantially across common training recipes, with these degradations predicting how well interpretability methods such as logit lens recover the installed behavior. They introduce a model-merging-based multi-objective training approach and apply it to a new model-organism suite for demographic bias in clinical reasoning, finding DPO training preserves the base model better than supervised finetuning.

Agent in a Bottle: Can LLM Agents Turn Their Capabilities Into Cheap, Scalable Artifacts?

This paper introduces BOTTLED, a benchmark testing whether LLM agents can autonomously convert their general task-solving ability into cheaper, scalable artifacts (e.g., training a small distilled model or writing a reusable program) when faced with millions of similar queries under fixed time, compute, and API budgets, a capability the authors call bottling. Across ten models and three tasks, the authors find zero-shot performance does not reliably predict bottling success: 48 of 60 runs scored below their own model's zero-shot confidence interval, and 31 of 60 underperformed simple small-model distillation baselines. Despite this, strong agents like Opus 5 can retain about 82% of zero-shot macro-F1 at about 657x lower cost on query-product relevance classification, and recover about 94% of a dedicated cheap-inference model's (Jev) performance at a quarter of its cost.

Towards an Extensible Benchmark for Spoken Dialogue with Social Robots

This paper proposes an extensible benchmark for studying spoken dialogue artifacts between humans and social robots, including clarification requests, interruptions, embodied signals like head nods and facial cues, and time constraints. It argues that while language models give a plug-and-play human-robot interface, handling speech, fast interaction and collaboration remains an open challenge, and recommends Retico, a real-time communication framework, as the technical substrate for giving robots spoken dialogue capabilities.

Toward Alignment Scaling Laws: A Framework and First Preregistered Measurements

This paper proposes a formal framework for "alignment scaling laws," modeling the compute/capability burden needed to hold a fixed safety target for each risk category as a power law B_r(N)=a_rN^alpha_r, where the exponent alpha_r determines whether alignment gets easier, keeps pace, or accumulates "alignment debt" as capability N grows. The authors prove theoretical results (the largest exponent among corrected risks sets the long-run regime, super-exponential headroom requirements above alpha=1, small-model fits underestimate large-scale exponents for power-law mixtures) and apply a preregistered protocol twice: a reanalysis of adversarial-training data on Pythia classifiers (attack-success compute exponent 0.60) and a pilot across Qwen2.5 (0.5B-72B) and Qwen3 (0.6B-14B), finding scaling helps for truthfulness and stated dispositions but sycophancy (exponent ~0.83-0.89) and a planted backdoor behave worse or remain undetermined, with the backdoor surviving blind safety training at most model sizes. The work matters as an early attempt to put the "does alignment get harder with scale" debate on measurable, falsifiable footing rather than anecdote.

Lachesis: Lifetime-Aware KV Cache Placement for Agent Serving across HBM and High-Bandwidth Flash

Lachesis is a lifetime-aware KV cache placement layer for LLM agent serving that sits between the agent harness and the serving engine, deciding whether to write each KV cache segment to HBM or high-bandwidth flash (HBF) based on its expected lifetime. The authors identify temporal, structural, and inter-worker axes along which KV cache lifetime diverges in agentic workloads, and show in trace-driven simulation that lifetime-aware placement extends HBF's write-endurance-limited lifetime by 1.19–3.13x over naive HBM-first placement, reaching 3.3–12.2 device-years. This matters for serving infrastructure as agentic workloads with long-lived, multi-agent context accumulation push memory capacity demands beyond what HBM alone can economically provide.

overmind-core/overmind

Overmind is an open-source platform (MIT SDK/CLI, AGPL-3.0 platform, self-hostable) that instruments an agent's code via OpenTelemetry tracing, turns the resulting production traces (or any dataset) into a fine-tuned model benchmarked against user-defined eval metrics, and serves it through one unified API with downloadable/retrainable weights. It ships an SDK, CLI, REST API, Console, and an MCP server exposing project tools and workflows (investigate-capability, finetune-capability, ship-model) for Cursor, Claude Code, OpenCode and Codex, and can sync traces from Langfuse, LangSmith, Braintrust or Galileo; self-hosting runs via Docker Compose with Postgres, Redis, Celery workers and Modal-based GPU workers for fine-tuning/serving (vLLM).

Learning What to Imitate: Entropy-Aware Distribution Mixing

The paper proposes Entropy-Aware Mixing, a knowledge-distillation method where a small student model's per-token distribution is dynamically interpolated with a stronger teacher model's distribution, gated by the student's own predictive entropy, to avoid "confident conflicts" where the student must imitate low-probability continuations despite being confident in a different one. The authors implement both convex and geometric interpolations under two training regimes β€” offline trace generation via speculative decoding followed by SFT, and on-policy forward-KL distillation β€” and show it stabilises distillation, improving in- and out-of-distribution math reasoning while better preserving general capabilities than fixed-teacher supervision, with offline traces favouring concave entropy schedules and on-policy training favouring linear/convex ones.

Register Codex's Computer Use as a Claude Code MCP Server

A thread shows how to register Codex's built-in Computer Use capability β€” the "cua_repl" MCP server found in ~/.codex/plugins/cache/openai-bundled/unified-computer-use/ β€” as a custom user MCP server (named "codex-cu") inside Claude Code, letting Claude drive Mac GUI automation via Codex's computer-use backend instead of a separate CUA driver. The author reports an informal benchmark across 8 computer-operation tasks: Claude Opus 5.5 + Codex Computer Use scored 6/8, Codex alone scored 6/8, and the original CUA driver only scored 3-4/8, with a caveat that future Codex updates could break this cross-agent MCP reuse.

Rethinking skills and prompts for GPT-6 Astra

OpenAI guidance for Codex users on adapting instructions, skills, AGENTS.md, and task prompts, now that GPT-6 Astra is more capable than prior models like GPT-5.6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna. It covers writing shorter, non-contradictory skill descriptions, using progressive disclosure (a minimal router skill pointing to supporting docs and scripts rather than loading everything into context), trimming over-eager AGENTS.md instructions such as forced doc-reading and excessive test-running reminders, recalibrating decision-boundary language since Astra is more cautious by default, and explicitly defining completion so the model does not stop after a first implementation when more work is expected.

Latent reasoning architectures would likely undermine CoT, our strongest oversight tool

An AI Alignment Forum essay arguing that chain-of-thought (CoT) monitoring β€” reading a model's natural-language reasoning trace to catch misaligned behavior before it is acted on β€” is currently one of the strongest practical oversight tools for frontier AI, and that a shift toward latent reasoning architectures (models that reason in continuous/hidden vector space rather than discrete, human-readable tokens) would largely destroy this transparency. The authors, including Ryan Greenblatt and collaborators, lay out why such architectures are plausible as a capability/efficiency direction and what the loss of CoT legibility would mean for safety oversight of advanced models.

EIP-TBD: Resolution β€” Non-Self-Authorizing State Transitions

A draft EIP ("Resolution") posted to Ethereum Magicians proposes a formal authority boundary separating "valid/computed/proven" from "authorized to change state," with a Resolve() function returning AUTHORIZED, UNAUTHORIZED, or UNRESOLVED. It generalizes a pattern the author sees already present piecemeal in ERC-7710 (delegation possession vs. exact capability), ERC-8196 (autonomous transaction vs. owner policy proof), and ERC-8354 (proposed action vs. policy verdict), arguing composition must be authority-non-expansive so recovery proofs, provenance commitments, and agent-generated candidate transactions can't silently acquire authority they weren't granted.

Sandboxes Explained: What Each Type Actually Isolates | Blog | Endor Labs

An Endor Labs primer surveying what different sandbox technologies actually isolate: hypervisor-based VMs (Firecracker microVMs, the VENOM floppy-controller escape CVE-2015-3456, Spectre/Meltdown), Linux containers (namespaces/cgroups/seccomp, the runc host-overwrite escape CVE-2019-5736, gVisor's userspace kernel, Kata Containers' per-pod microVMs), and language-runtime sandboxes (Java's deprecated SecurityManager, V8 isolates behind Cloudflare Workers, WebAssembly/WASI's capability model). It then pivots to AI agent sandboxing, arguing the threat model flips from "what can this process touch" to "what actions can this confused-deputy agent take," framed around Simon Willison's lethal trifecta (private data, untrusted content, external communication) and controls like filesystem scoping, egress allowlists, scoped short-lived credentials, and session-level audit logging.
