Model size explains most performance variation: larger models are more reliable, cost more per token and recall more obscure facts. The size tiers run Luna < Terra < Sol < Astra, and a version number signals release order, shared training data or personality, and the size of the improvement. The excerpt is short and gives no benchmark data.

Backporting security fixes to stable releasesTrail of Bits argues that stable and LTS software, such as Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, Debian 13 and stable Linux kernel branches, carries many known CVEs that were fixed upstream but never backported. It measures the gap using the kernel CVE team's vulns.git (18 September 2026) and Debian and Ubuntu CVE feeds. Using Codex with GPT-5.6, the team got 142 fixes covering 90 CVEs applied to stable kernel trees and has begun sending patches to distributions.

Ethereum fixes Glamsterdam bug that could have sent staking deposits to buildersGlamsterdam deposit bug: Ethereum developers merged a consensus-spec fix on 26 October 2026 for a flaw in the upcoming upgrade. An operator could register as a builder under a public key, then a staking service's validator deposit under the same key would be credited to the builder, so no validator is created and funds are unrecoverable. Pending deposits are now sorted by withdrawal credentials. No losses were reported, and client teams still have to implement the change.

GPT-6.1 TerraGPT-6.1 Terra is OpenAI's midrange model, announced 26 October 2026 and aimed at visual reasoning, computer use and clearer writing. It costs $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output, about half of GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol and roughly 10x GPT-6 Luna. Simon Willison relays OpenAI's Ted Sanders, who rates it better than Astra and Sol at technical communication and much faster on computer use.

Bundled Brotli copies in Bun, Python Requests and .NET, Go binaries needing rebuilds, and per-program certificate stores all leave stale copies. It lists steps: track bundled components, keep a rebuild path, use workarounds, and verify the shipped artifact.

Bitcoin Wallet Fixes Critical Flaw That Redirected Funds to AttackersElectrum 4.8.3, released 24 October 2026, fixes a high-severity flaw in the Bitcoin wallet. Rogue servers could suppress a real payment and inject a fake unconfirmed transaction paying an attacker, so a user's fee-bump became the first transaction broadcast. The fix verifies signatures on wallet-owned inputs, but incoming transactions from external senders stay unverified. One user lost funds on 18 October.
