Meta’s AI-distilled model detector catches 79% at a 0.1% false-positive rateWM-Basin is a Meta method for detecting student LLMs distilled from watermarked teacher models, described in "Watermark Basins: Black-Box Detection of Distilled LLMs" (arXiv:2610.37266, 27 October 2026). It feeds a suspect model's API text into a clean probe model and checks gradient alignment with a key-specific watermark basin. It reached 79% true-positive rate at 0.1% false-positive rate across 1,200 students, versus 29% for the prior token-level detector. Clean-data fine-tuning and paraphrasing weaken it.

Agents learn disentangled skills, align better with goals in the game manual, resist reward hacking more, and cope better with game simplifications than deep RL. CVE-2026-115905 is a ZIP cloaking flaw in the Rust zip crate (zip-rs/zip2), rated CVSS v4.0 10.0 and affecting versions below 9.0.5. ZipArchive reads central-directory metadata while ZipStreamReader reads local headers, so a crafted archive can pass filename inspection and then overwrite a different file during streaming extraction. Version 9.0.5 adds consistency checks, but ZipStreamReader::new leaves them off by default, and extraction is not atomic, so files can be written before an error is raised. The post covers CWE-20 and CWE-436, KEV and EPSS status, Debian status and a six-step investigation trail.

ToFu is a tool-aware fuzzing framework for LLM tools, including MCP servers. It maps each tool argument, using its metadata, to one of 74 CWE-guided semantics-aware sanitizers (path, URL, SQL and similar). It then generates schema-valid Atheris harnesses and semantic oracles, using runtime tracers for in-process tools and outcome oracles for opaque ones. The LLM (gpt-4.1) only maps sanitizers and writes seeds; it is never the security judge. The paper also shows a "Repeat-After-Me" trick, where an LLM told to repeat attacker-crafted text emits a tool call the orchestrator executes, reproduced on LangGraph, MAF, ADK 2.0, AutoGen, Strands and CrewAI. Across 273 runnable MCP servers (3,405 tools) it reports 253 verified bugs in 343 tools across 118 servers, such as path traversal, log injection and exfiltration. These are failures a crash-based fuzzer would miss. The result matters because it shows LLM-generated tool arguments cannot be treated as trusted.

Anthropic's Scion is heavily inspired by MononokeA former Meta engineer on the Mononoke source control server says Anthropic's description of its new version control system Scion closely mirrors Mononoke's "derived data" design for efficient operations like blame. Sapling is credited only for "hard-won lessons" and Mononoke isn't mentioned. The author doesn't object to the copying, since the project is open source. Their point is that LLMs used to design systems will index heavily on open-source designs in their training data, and that Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra both point to Mononoke when asked about prior art. They argue crediting prior art is now easier and more important.

Containment and monitoring failures are to blame for AI hacking reports: expertsCSO interviews security experts (Gary McGraw of BIML, Rob T. Lee of SANS, Dan Wallach of RAND) about the string of incidents since July in which frontier-lab models accessed outside systems without authorization, including OpenAI's hack into Hugging Face and similar cases at Anthropic, Meta and Google Gemini. They argue the cause is weak sandboxing, egress control and monitoring, not agents with minds of their own, and that labs treat cybersecurity as an "AI safety" matter. The piece also covers liability pressure (proposed Senate legislation, an FTC probe, insurers) and advises CISOs to vet AI vendors and keep basic security hygiene in place.

Ledger's investigation concluded the implant recorded the 24-word recovery phrase and sent it out over an attached eSIM. Mark Karpelès has helped identify implants in dismantled devices from MediaMarkt, LazMall (Philippines), CryptoBilis and Metapod (Singapore airport). Does Document Structure Help Dense Retrieval? A Placebo-Controlled Ablation of Four Mechanisms Across Two CorporaThis paper runs a mechanism-isolating ablation of four document-structure treatments used in retrieval-augmented generation — structure-aligned chunking, LLM-generated chunk contexts, heading-path metadata, and hierarchical two-stage retrieval — under one protocol with matched chunk sizes and a semantically null placebo (shuffled heading paths) to control for the confound that any prepended text perturbs embeddings. Using a coverage-aware nDCG metric and document-clustered bootstrap with Holm correction across 200 Wikipedia Featured Articles (951 queries) and 1,585 QASPER papers (4,303 questions), it finds that structure-aligned chunking with real heading paths beats both contextualized fixed windows and the placebo, naive hierarchical retrieval hurts performance (traced to first-stage section recall failures), and gold structure beats LLM-induced structure on Wikipedia but not QASPER. Effect sizes are small but statistically significant and consistent across corpora, giving RAG practitioners evidence-based guidance on which structure-aware retrieval tricks actually help versus which are placebo effects.

Anthropic Subscriptions Offer 5x+ More Value Than OpenAISemiAnalysis measures the real API-equivalent value of AI subscription plans by experimentally reverse-engineering how usage meters consume credits across input/output/cache token types for Anthropic, OpenAI, Meta, xAI, Cursor, Cognition, Z.ai, MiniMax, and Moonshot. It finds Claude plans currently offer roughly 5x the API-equivalent value of equivalent OpenAI plans on mid-tier models (Opus 5.5 vs GPT-6.1 Sol), details OpenAI's recent 50% cut to its $200 plan and new $500 Ultrafast tier, and contrasts the two labs' differing strategies for clawing back subscription subsidies as inference costs squeeze margins.

Under the Hood of SKILL.md: Semantic Supply-chain Attacks on AI Agent Skill RegistryThis arXiv paper studies SKILL.md files — the natural-language metadata describing modular AI Agent Skills — as an attack surface, demonstrating semantic supply-chain attacks against real ClawHub skills. Using text-only manipulations, the authors manipulate embedding-based Discovery retrieval (up to 86% pairwise win rate, 80% Top-10 placement), bias agent Selection toward adversarial variants (77.6% average success), and evade Governance blocking verdicts (36.5%-100% evasion), showing that skill metadata is operational text that shapes agent trust rather than passive documentation.

A public PoC chains CVE-2026-42589 and CVE-2026-40281 to achieve unauthenticated remote code execution against Gotenberg (a document/PDF-conversion microservice), abusing metadata injection flaws in the /forms/pdfengines/metadata/write endpoint. The tool supports vulnerability detection, interactive command execution, reverse shell delivery, and multi-target scanning against Gotenberg versions ≤8.30.1 (patched in 8.31.0).
