Meta Muse Spark Open (816B-A42B) open-weights model cardModel card for Meta Superintelligence Labs' Muse Spark Open, an open-weights, natively multimodal model with 816B total and 42B active parameters and a 1M-token context window. It targets coding and agentic work (tool use, long-horizon tasks, multimodal reasoning, synthetic data generation, LLM-as-judge). It ships in BF16 and NVFP4, needs about 700GB VRAM (NVFP4) or 2TB (BF16), runs on SGLang, vLLM, Transformers, TensorRT-LLM, Unsloth, llama.cpp and MLX, and supports a reasoning_effort setting. The Muse Model License requires "Built with Muse Spark Open" attribution and a separate agreement for Model-as-a-Service above $20M revenue. The card reports safety results against Kimi K3 on cyber, chem/bio and loss-of-control evals.

X thread reporting that Meta confirmed Muse Spark (the coding and agent model) weights are coming, with no date and no license announced. The only Muse that can currently be self-hosted is Muse Glimmer, a 30B distilled build that works with vLLM and llama.cpp. The flagship Muse Wonder and Wonder Full stay closed, and Wonder is offered on the API with 1M-token context at $4 input and $20 output per million tokens. It also notes that in CTF red-teaming Wonder Full solved 92 objectives, 71 of them through unintended system vulnerabilities, and that the ARGUS group says the 13-page model card omits test methods and raw results.

It runs llama.cpp with the ggml-vulkan backend on the console's RDNA 2 GPU, using 11.4 GB of shared memory, and loads any GGUF model. It serves OpenAI /v1/chat/completions, Anthropic /v1/messages (usable from Claude Code, Codex and opencode) and a browser chat page on port 8081. It also supports image-projector vision models and TypeSafe-style decision models through a /v1/systemone endpoint. Google DeepMind’s on-device scam detection keeps chats off the cloudDescribes a scam-detection model built by Google DeepMind with GovTech Singapore that runs entirely on the user's device. A low-power message classifier screens incoming messages, then a Gemma model fine-tuned on local scam conversations (impersonated institutions, banks, regional schemes) judges the wider conversation to confirm a threat or discard a false alarm. Fine-tuning ran in a GovTech-managed GCP environment on anonymised scam reports and intelligence feeds, with no PII. Chat access needs user consent, and the system gives real-time warnings. The gap in shared understanding of LLM capability is wideningAndrej Karpathy argues the gap in shared understanding of LLM capability is widening into a funnel: ~6B people barely touch LLMs, 1-2B use free-tier chatbots casually, ~20M professionals in math and code see agents finish weeks-long projects from a prompt, and ~5,000 people with internal frontier access see swarms of agents on software mega-projects. He attributes the funnel to problem ambition and scale, jagged capability (peaks in digital, verifiable, economically valuable domains because of RL on verifiable rewards), and access tier. It is a useful framing for why people talk past each other about AI progress.

Why AlphaFold Didn't Solve Protein Folding — Pushmeet Kohli, Google DeepMind & Sal Candido, BiohubTranscript of a panel moderated by Brandon Anderson with Pushmeet Kohli (Google DeepMind) and Sal Candido (Biohub). They discuss a "bitter lesson" for biological data: finding the right scaling law and good data matters more than raw scale. Low-quality metagenomic sequences can still improve protein language models, and AlphaFold 2's handcrafted inductive biases made it data-efficient. They also cover why protein folding isn't fully solved (dynamics, disorder, cryo-EM micrographs as a richer data source), the need for calibrated uncertainty (pLDDT) over full interpretability, hidden knowledge in protein language models, and the move from single-protein models to a virtual cell.
