Hugging Face malware campaign returns to hijack GPUs for crypto mining

A campaign of 31 malicious Hugging Face repositories across seven accounts, found by Pluto Security, posed as small Qwen2 checkpoints and used trust_remote_code to run a cryptominer and reverse shell on GPU inference hosts. The top model reached 28,412 downloads and scanned clean, and a second wave returned within days of takedown. The article also covers a fake Solana starter kit on GitHub that installs NetSupport Manager via a PowerShell one-liner aimed at AI coding agents.

An opinion post from 21 October 2026 arguing that a widely feared PHP vulnerability has no easy exploit. The author says the many GitHub "PoC" repositories fail against a vanilla PHP instance in Docker. They claim LLM agents produced them by depending on a local-file-inclusion flaw or by modifying the server to be vulnerable. The author also argues that LLM defaults make many people's judgements identical.

LiteLLM 1.107.0 on PyPI shipped malware in all 7 wheels, the package's second supply-chain attack this year. It steals SSH keys, cloud credentials, browser passwords, AI tool configs and API keys, and installs a backdoor that polls for commands hourly. The GitHub source is clean, so a hijacked build or publish step is suspected. PyPI quarantined the release, but Aikido says the Docker image litellm/litellm:1.107.0 was still live. Indicators are cook.pth, cook.py and sitecustomize.py in site-packages. The advice is to rotate reachable keys and pin 1.106.2.

litellm 1.107.0 Compromised on PyPI: Backdoored Wheels Drop a Credential Stealer and an Hourly Remote Code Loader

litellm 1.107.0 was published to PyPI on 21 October 2026 with all seven wheels backdoored through an injected `data = "cook"` maturin build line. The wheels drop cook.pth, cook.py and sitecustomize.py, which run on every Python start. They install a "privcollect" credential stealer (browser, SSH, cloud, AI coding tool and LiteLLM proxy database secrets, sent to litellm.dev) and an hourly GitHub dead-drop remote code loader. Why do LLM pelicans look like this?

Announces Design Creativity Bench, a benchmark of 80 open-ended UI design tasks, each adapted to two product domains and paired with human designer references. It evaluates 16 frontier models on Originality (how distinct a model's output is from other models' for the same brief), Creative Range (how much its design decisions change when the domain changes) and Appropriateness (how well the UI meets the brief's functional requirements). The best model, GPT-6 Astra, scores 65.5 against a human reference of 92.3. The leaderboard, methodology, arXiv paper, Hugging Face dataset and GitHub evaluation framework are published.

Accelerating Pollard Rho with GPU Field Arithmetic on NVIDIA Blackwell

Preprint that speeds up Pollard rho on GPUs by rebuilding field arithmetic: packed normal-basis representation, the CUDA 13.3 PTX carry-less multiply (clmad), and three-input logic instructions. On one RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell it goes from 0.85 to 14.64 billion iterations/s (17.2x) on the Certicom ECC2K-130 challenge, which puts the whole challenge under five GPU-years. The same levers give 1.52x on P-256 and 2.61x on P-384, which leaves P-256 about 6e21 card-years away. It also reports twelve GPUs from Turing to Blackwell, an FPGA engine on AWS F2 and a campaign that covered 5.4% of the expected work, with code and a Dockerfile on GitHub (rho-blackwell). GitHub’s model for secret detection: Finding more secrets with less noise

GitHub describes replacing an LLM-based generic secret detection pipeline with a two-stage system. High-recall regex generates candidates, then a fine-tuned ModernBERT classifier scores each one using its file path, secret type, variable names and surrounding context. Training data mixes product feedback, weak-labelled regex candidates and synthetic hard negatives, with splits grouped by repository, value or example. The model is exported to ONNX with 8-bit quantization. Reported results against the LLM pipeline: 13% higher precision, 19% higher recall, 11.5% higher owner-weighted acceptance in an A/B test, 86% lower median post-push scan time and over 98% lower serving cost. It is a concrete case for using a small fine-tuned encoder instead of an LLM on a narrow, measurable classification task.

Codex CLI installs a persistent, self-updating background daemon by default

GitHub issue asking OpenAI to make `daemon_auto_start` opt-in in Codex CLI 0.157.0. By default, opening an interactive session starts a persistent `codex app-server --managed-daemon` that outlives the terminal. It also copies a ~374 MB platform package into ~/.codex/packages/app-server-daemon and runs a detached hourly `pid-update-loop` updater. The daemon keeps the first session's environment (proxy variables, cwd, direnv values), which the reporter ties to hook bugs #42457 and #37537. Comments confirm the problem on Windows and add the workaround (`codex features disable daemon_auto_start`, kill the updater, remove the package dir). They also note that `daemon stop` leaves the updater running and that the option is missing from the config docs. One commenter proposes an "execution receipt" (CLI version, daemon binary digest, generation, inherited-environment generation).

Codex CLI installs a persistent, self-updating background daemon by default

GitHub issue asking OpenAI to make Codex CLI's daemon_auto_start opt-in. Since 0.157.0, opening a session starts a persistent app-server daemon with no TTY. It copies a ~374 MB platform package into ~/.codex/packages, so the running binary is decoupled from the npm-installed version. A detached hourly updater restarts the backend, and the daemon pins the first session's environment variables (proxy settings, direnv-style secrets like GH_TOKEN) and cwd. The thread also reports that `daemon stop` leaves the pid-update-loop updater alive, gives a manual workaround, and proposes an "execution receipt" (client version, daemon binary digest, generation, updater state, environment generation) so clients can tell which binary and environment served a turn.

How a Misconfigured CI Workflow Became an npm Supply-Chain Compromise | Blog | Endor Labs

Endor Labs breaks down the May 11, 2026 compromise of 42 @tanstack/* npm packages (84 malicious versions) that carried valid SLSA provenance. The attacker chained a pull_request_target "Pwn Request", GitHub Actions cache poisoning across the fork/base boundary, and OIDC token extraction from Runner.Worker memory, then published directly to npm without stealing any credential. It explains why 2FA, trusted publishing, provenance and branch protection all failed, and lists mitigations: split pull_request_target workflows, treat the cache as untrusted, scope id-token: write to a publish job, pin actions to SHAs, require environment approval, use egress allowlists.

500B tokens later: Letting AI agents decompile a first-person shooter

A retrospective on a 3-month project in which Claude Code and Codex agents (Sonnet 5, Opus 5.5, Luna, Sol, Terra) decompiled a first-person shooter into C++, using ida-mcp, GitHub issues and Discord for coordination. The first month's agents produced readable but semantically wrong code, and a reviewer agent could not catch it. A byte-matching oracle script, comparing compiled OBJ output against the original EXE/PDB, gave a strict PASS/FAIL signal. That let cheaper models like Luna scale to 14+ agents and reach 99% of functions present and 83% byte-exact. Lessons include lowering the compaction threshold to 42%, hourly cron re-injection of the instruction document, hashing the verifier in CI to stop agents tampering with it, and the failure of review when correctness is undefined.
