Alpine Linux rebuilds GitLab after attempted RCE attackAlpine Linux rebuilt its GitLab server and reset all passwords after attackers tried to exploit CVE-2026-97229, a maximum-severity integer overflow in the Onigmo regex engine bundled with Ruby, on October 20-21. Eight worker crashes occurred and four were partially successful. Missing logs and outbound connection records meant compromise could not be ruled out. Alpine had run GitLab 19.3.4, then 19.3.6, which lacked the Ruby patch; the fixed image is alpinelinux/gitlab:19.3.6 with Ruby 3.3.13.

It models decoding as a stopped stochastic process, giving per-prompt normality and an affine variance law σ=αμ+b. Predictors (MLP, EGTP, FiLM, soft-label, Mixture-of-Experts) converge near the bound, so system error dominates model error. Decision models were cheaper and faster, but answers with probability of at least 0.90 still had error rates of 1.71% to 12.77%, and probability repeatability varied across three runs.

It shows that choosing the commitment coefficient vector does not help much: a wrapper adversary with Q challenges succeeds with probability at most QM/p, even if its solvers decode every witness for free. For the six original (N, τ) pairs, M stays below 2^24, so the bound is under 2^-100 after 2^128 challenges at p = 2^252.

Electrum wallet security flaw is fixed after a user loses money in fee attackElectrum 4.8.3, released 24 October 2026, fixes a flaw where a malicious server replaces a user's unconfirmed payment with a conflicting transaction carrying invalid signatures. If the user then bumps the fee with replace-by-fee, the wallet signs a payment to the attacker. One of two reporting users lost funds, and the patch now checks input signatures before accepting such transactions. Bull Bitcoin is adding the same client-side check.

Sliding Networks: A Family of Residual Structures Preserving Feature Learning and Feature DiversitySliding Networks is a family of residual network structures with a joint width and depth scaling recipe that keeps both locally maximal feature learning and feature diversity in the residual stream. The key quantity is the ratio N_flat/(N_sharp L) tending to a constant alpha, and Half Copy correlated initialization can relax the shape constraints. Residual-MLP experiments support an SDE limit, but language-model experiments show performance differences under regrouping at fixed parameter count.

Saliency maps and attention visualisation reveal a low-weight-row artifact in the random training instances that the model partly relies on. A Key-Recovery Attack on the GTLN Knapsack Cryptosystem via Continued FractionsThis ePrint paper (2026/2543) gives a key-recovery attack on the GTLN knapsack public-key cryptosystem of Gómez-Torrecillas, Lobillo and Navarro. Continued fractions recover small-denominator ratios of public-key differences, and gcd computations then yield private-key integers, the modulus and the shift, using only the public key. The Python implementation recovered the full private key in all 2,400 trials across 24 recommended parameter sets, each in under 0.05 seconds.

Superspecial points on Humbert surfaces and the probability of (N,N)-splittingDetermines, to first order in 1/p with an explicit error bound, the proportion of superspecial principally polarized abelian surfaces over F_p-bar (p ≡ 3 mod 4) that are optimally (N,N)-split. The expected number of optimal splittings is exactly 5N·J_2(N)(p-1)/(p²+1), so the split proportion is about 5N·J_2(N)/p. This gives the stationary target density of the splitting-detection attack on the dimension-two superspecial isogeny problem, which was previously known only from experiments or a one-sided bound. The proofs use Siegel's mass formula and genus averages over refined Humbert invariants, and every formula was checked by exact computation at twelve primes.

Satoshi-era bitcoin faces a bigger quantum threat after Google’s new Willow breakthroughCoinDesk reports Google's Science paper showing its Willow chip prepares "magic states" with about 40x fewer errors (about 99.99% fidelity, but only about 8% of attempts survive post-selection) using a method called cultivation. It explains why this lowers one hardware bottleneck for a Shor's-algorithm attack on Bitcoin's ECDSA keys, but does not make an attack 40x cheaper. It also separates coins with permanently exposed public keys (early Satoshi-era outputs, which an offline attacker can target) from hash-hidden keys, where the attacker must race the spend. The article cites Google's March estimate of under 500,000 physical qubits and about 500,000 reliable magic states per second for a roughly nine-minute attack.
