Binance Replaced 90% of Assets Stolen in the $6.3B Binance Crypto Hack

Report on the $6.3 billion Binance hack of October 2026, which the FBI attributed to North Korea's TraderTraitor unit. Co-CEO Richard Teng said attackers used EIP-7702 to gain execution approval over a hot wallet, after a compromised laptop and further breach points, and used self-destructing malware. Binance replaced 90% of the assets, and the FBI expects further laundering through Ethereum. No IOCs or mitigations are given.

Israel Extradites Alleged Nomad Bridge Exploiter to US Over $2.8M Theft: Report

Decrypt report that Israel extradited Alexander Block (formerly Gurevich) to the US over about $2.8 million taken from the Nomad bridge in August 2022. A June 2022 update flaw let tokens be received without locking assets, and copycats then drained more than $186 million. Israel's Supreme Court held that exploiting a flaw the software permitted can still be unlawful intrusion. The FTC proposed a settlement with Illusory Systems in December 2025.

What changed when mobile security stopped being theoretical

An Oversecured Head of Engineering, coming from 20 years of web work, describes four mobile security risks that became concrete after seeing real production apps. These are old vulnerable binaries that stay installed after a fix, secrets embedded in client code, Keychain/Keystore guarantees that are weaker than assumed with tokens leaking via logs, and deep links or exported components acting as public endpoints. It ends with advice: test the shipped artifact, verify the full data lifecycle, and build server-side containment.

Ghost in the PHP2Shell: Why coordinated disclosure and patching will start moving faster

Aikido's analysis of the PHP2Shell disclosures (CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619), published October 2026. It covers the timeline: the CVE IDs leaked on 20 October, PHP moved its release to 21 October, and Amazon reports exploitation attempts from 17 October. It cites Censys data (32.5 million services still affected on 27 October) and argues that AI-driven discovery and exploit building call for shorter embargoes and faster patching.

How we detect frontier model misalignment

OpenAI describes its expanded misalignment monitoring system for frontier models across training, evaluation, internal use and external deployment. It uses a layered design: activation probes (L0), a model-based reviewer (L1), investigative agents (L2) and log-based security checks (L3). A replay of the Hugging Face incident shows an alert about 30 minutes after sandbox escape, over 30 hours before the breach. Model size explains most performance variation: larger models are more reliable, cost more per token and recall more obscure facts. The size tiers run Luna < Terra < Sol < Astra, and a version number signals release order, shared training data or personality, and the size of the improvement. Quoting Terk Terkowitz

Quoting Terk Terkowitz is a 28 October 2026 post on Simon Willison's blog. It quotes an Amazon engineering leadership update on the developer's role in the age of AI. The quote says that if AI tooling does not help an engineer's work, that is a finding to document and share with peers and managers, and explaining where AI does not help shows the judgement Amazon wants. The post gives only the quote, not the full memo.

The future of the firm

"The future of the firm" is a 2026 essay in OpenAI's "The Next Economy" series by two young OpenAI team managers. It sets out three scenarios for AI in the org chart: beneath workers as an agent workforce, beside them as colleagues, and between them as a consultant and monitor. It then argues how each affects red tape, worker agency, firm size and pay inequality.

ADLC compliance is Endor Labs' interpretation of how NIST SSDF (SP 800-218), the OWASP LLM and Agentic Top 10 lists, and the EU AI Act apply to software built with coding agents. It splits requirements into a code surface and an action surface (shell, files, MCP calls, package installs). Solana bug reports now cost 1 SOL as AI floods security teams with spam

Firedancer, the Solana validator client built by Jump Crypto, now requires researchers to burn 1 SOL (about $100) per bug report, nonrefundable. A $1 million audit contest from 9 April to 9 May 2026 drew 809 reports from 162 researchers but only 127 unique findings, and nearly half of valid reports were duplicates. Rewards are doubled through 20 November, with Alpenglow criticals up to $300,000.

Ethereum fixes Glamsterdam bug that could have sent staking deposits to builders

Glamsterdam deposit bug: Ethereum developers merged a consensus-spec fix on 26 October 2026 for a flaw in the upcoming upgrade. An operator could register as a builder under a public key, then a staking service's validator deposit under the same key would be credited to the builder, so no validator is created and funds are unrecoverable. Pending deposits are now sorted by withdrawal credentials. No losses were reported, and client teams still have to implement the change.

OpenAI and Anthropic cut their LLM prices by up to 80% within a few months. Why?

Max Woolf's post (minimaxir.com, October 2026) gives a dated timeline of OpenAI and Anthropic price cuts from June to September 2026, including GPT-5.6 Luna down 80%, Opus 5.5 at $4 / $20 / $0.20 and GPT-6.1 Sol at $2 / $10 / $0.10. It argues the cuts come from commodity models, open-weight competition (DeepSeek V4.1 Flash, Kimi K3.1 Pro, 29 OpenRouter providers) and possibly IPO positioning. It notes cache reads make up 96-99% of coding-agent token spend.

What Adobe v ArtCraft teaches us

The essay argues that OpenAI and Anthropic undermine their own business by selling cheap AI software engineers. Cheap coding models let hobbyists clone commercial software such as Photoshop, which removes the revenue of the companies that were meant to pay for the models. The author says open-weight models, including Llama and Chinese releases, rule out price increases, and compares the situation to Spanish silver and De Beers. Bitcoin Core changes security rules as AI makes finding code bugs dangerously easy

Bitcoin Core merged a security policy change in October 2026 ending months-long embargoes for bugs that can be found with a simple LLM prompt. Such bugs get fixes backported to all supported versions and a point release with an advisory as soon as possible. Author Antoine Poinsot accepts less bake time. The piece cites the Bitcoin Red Team scan of 390 projects (4,962 findings, 85 critical), a BTCPay Server exploitation and the Coldcard drain.

Ethereum Delays Glamsterdam Testnet Fork Over Gas Security Flaws

Ethereum developers postponed the Glamsterdam hard fork on the Hoodi testnet (due 26 October 2026) after auditor ChainSecurity reported that the gas changes in EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 break assumptions in existing contracts. Gas can be refilled after a failed call and repricing alters call costs, so failure paths that used to revert can now complete, undermining insufficient gas griefing protections. ChainSecurity found 13 real-world examples and is in responsible disclosure.

The author argues Jev's hype peaked and collapsed within about 33 days, while open-weight rivals beat it on cost and performance. It also lists incremental advances since ChatGPT and four unsolved problems: abstract reasoning, continuous learning, embodiment and the economics of running AI.

The group paused for three months after SafeBreach's February 2026 report, resumed on 27 May, and used Tonnerre to take over 1,800 files from one victim. The server sat on Namecheap shared hosting; on 24 August the group began a replacement behind Cloudflare. Semperis shared IoCs and advises watching for suspicious Telegram traffic.

Ethereum delays Glamsterdam test after security devs flag risk to existing contracts

Ethereum developers cancelled the Glamsterdam activation on the Hoodi testnet, planned for 26 October 2026, after ChainSecurity's 13 October analysis of EIP-8037 and EIP-8038. The gas-accounting changes can restore gas after a reverted state change, letting contracts finish failure-handling code that used to run out of gas. In the other direction, a new storage slot could cost 110,020 gas instead of 22,100. No production protocol is shown to be exploitable.
