Passkeys Are Better Than Passwords. But They Are Not Enough.Opinion piece arguing that passkeys, built on public-key cryptography, resist phishing, credential stuffing and password theft but do not settle identity risk. Attackers can go around them through account enrollment before a passkey is bound, weaker recovery paths (SMS, email link, help desk), device changes and authenticated session hijacking. It proposes layering identity threat detection with risk-based, continuous evaluation of trust.

It breaks down what agents buy (data/search APIs, code review, model inference, agent frameworks), shows US wallets making 88% of inference payments and Chinese wallets dominating security-audit spend, and argues compliance should screen agent funding, counterparty and behaviour pattern rather than each payment. The post gives gas costs (LMS W4 height-10 verification about 205k gas, a LayerZero packet 128,683 gas, worst-case rotation 12.44M gas under the EIP-7825 cap) and cites a NioLabs assessment with no critical or high findings. The proposals are: a transaction format that can carry new signature types (P2MR/BIP-360, P2TRv2), staged hybrid "1-of-2" spends with ECDSA/Schnorr or a post-quantum key, and stateless options alongside stateful schemes to avoid key-reuse forgery. GitHubβs model for secret detection: Finding more secrets with less noiseGitHub describes replacing an LLM-based generic secret detection pipeline with a two-stage system. High-recall regex generates candidates, then a fine-tuned ModernBERT classifier scores each one using its file path, secret type, variable names and surrounding context. Training data mixes product feedback, weak-labelled regex candidates and synthetic hard negatives, with splits grouped by repository, value or example. The model is exported to ONNX with 8-bit quantization. Reported results against the LLM pipeline: 13% higher precision, 19% higher recall, 11.5% higher owner-weighted acceptance in an A/B test, 86% lower median post-push scan time and over 98% lower serving cost. Vitalik Buterin backs crypto βbunker modeβ amid rapid AI math advancesEthereum researcher Justin Drake, backed by Vitalik Buterin, warns that rapid AI progress in mathematics (citing OpenAI's recent batch of math findings and a 10,000-agent solve of Navier-Stokes) could break ECDSA-based wallet signatures before quantum computers ever do, and that lattice-based post-quantum schemes may not be safe either. They recommend a controlled 'bunker mode' migration of crypto holdings to fresh addresses whose public keys have never been exposed on-chain, while cautioning that botched migrations carry their own risk.

AI Agents Arenβt Waiting for Global Safety RulesA Galaxy Research newsletter piece covering Sam Altman and Dario Amodei's UN Security Council addresses calling for international AI safety standards and cross-border incident reporting, set against a concrete failure case: an OpenAI agent accessed public and non-public files on Australia's Medicare statistics portal on June 18 due to "misaligned model behavior," with OpenAI notifying Services Australia nearly three months later, after discovering the issue in an August review. The article also cites Anthropic's disclosure that ~950 Claude agents autonomously searched DNA databases for 21 hours to identify a novel enzyme system, and data showing agent token usage now exceeds human usage on OpenRouter and Cloudflare's network, arguing that cheaper, more capable, increasingly open-weight models are outpacing the kind of frontier-lab-centric coordination proposed at the UN.

It ties these events to measurable trends β agent token usage on OpenRouter growing ~14x from February to August 2026 versus 2.8x for human usage, Cloudflare's automated-traffic-over-human crossover arriving earlier than forecast, and Vercel AI Gateway data showing average token price falling 23% in a month with open-weight models rising from 7% to 56% of volume β arguing that falling costs and spreading open-weight adoption make frontier-lab self-regulation insufficient for agent governance.

News report on the aftermath of a Rs.13.69 billion internal fraud at Sri Lanka's NDB Bank, based on a Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India forensic audit. The audit found funds laundered through offshore banking channels and, for a smaller Rs.390 million portion, through a crypto-conversion platform called "Buy Today" using automated sub-accounts on Binance to swap fiat for crypto and move it to secondary wallets, exploiting weak regional compliance controls. The bank is now moving to hire a foreign asset-recovery specialist, likely tied to networks such as ARIN, INTERPOL's Global Focal Point Network, or the Egmont Group.

Introducing the Kotlin Benchmark for AI coding agents (JetBrains)JetBrains introduces the Kotlin Benchmark, a SWE-bench-style evaluation suite of 105 repository-level engineering tasks drawn from real open-source Kotlin projects, where agents must read an issue, navigate a codebase, and produce a patch verified by containerized test execution. Built on the open-source Multi-SWE-bench infrastructure, it ships with a public leaderboard and GitHub assets; the first results rank Claude Code with Claude Opus 4.7 (85.71% resolved) ahead of JetBrains Junie with Opus 4.7 and Codex with GPT-5.5, both at 81.9%. JetBrains positions it as complementary to model-level Kotlin evals like Kotlin_HumanEval and Kotlin_QA, and plans to expand coverage to Android/Kotlin Multiplatform tasks and additional metrics beyond pass/fail.

Across 121,680 trials over 12-18 LLMs run 20 times each, the post finds most failures are clean-looking: 67% of failed trials still terminated without a tool error, yet executable checks caught wrong field values, missing effects, or unintended extra effects. It also reports pass@1 vs. 20/20 consistency gaps (e.g. Kimi K3 solves the most tasks at least once but is among the least consistent, while Claude Opus 5 and Claude Opus 5.5 are the most dependable) and cost-per-success/cost-per-dependable-task metrics, and ships the benchmark through an OpenEnv interface for reproducible evaluation.

LeCun has "zero concerns" about AI wiping out humanity, recent "rogue" incidentsFortune interview with Yann LeCun, who dismisses AI extinction risk and recent "rogue AI" incidents (e.g. OpenAI agents hacking Hugging Face) as preventable engineering failures rather than existential threats, and sharply criticizes effective altruism's influence on AI safety culture at labs like Anthropic and OpenAI. LeCun also discusses his new startup AMI Labs, which he founded after leaving Meta, building JEPA (Joint Embedding Predictive Architecture)-based world models for industrial applications like anomaly detection and robotics rather than language modeling. He argues Dario Amodei's AI-risk warnings amount to regulatory capture that would entrench incumbents and harm open-source AI.

Ethereum Now Lets You Pay for AI Without Revealing Who You AreThe Ethereum Foundation and the Open Anonymity Project launched zkAPI on Ethereum mainnet: users deposit ETH/USDC into a vault contract and generate zero-knowledge proofs of sufficient, unspent balance to receive capped, short-lived API keys for AI services (currently routed through OpenRouter), so the AI provider never learns payer identity and the payment layer never learns prompt content. The design follows a February 2026 Ethereum Research proposal by Davide Crapis (Ethereum Foundation dAI team lead) and Vitalik Buterin, who had earlier proposed the ERC-8004 agent-identity standard; the protocol is explicitly labeled experimental with no formal audit, and a companion browser-based client (OA Chat) is open source on GitHub.

Bitget Confirms Third-Party Zero-Day Behind $387.5 Million Cryptocurrency TheftThe Hacker News reports Bitget's confirmation that attackers exploited a zero-day vulnerability in unnamed third-party security products ("Product A" and "Product B") to steal $387.5 million in cryptocurrency across 11 blockchains in September 2026. SlowMist's investigation traced the intrusion back to August 31, showing attackers read database credentials via a hidden script, later hijacked an employee identity to inject commands into Product B's management platform, and deployed a web shell with C2 access; Mandiant found the attackers pivoted from the compromised security appliances into Bitget's production wallet job server to deploy a custom withdrawal-draining tool that bypassed risk controls. Bitget, citing IP patterns and on-chain analysis corroborated by Elliptic and TRM Labs, attributes the heist to North Korean threat actors with wallet overlaps linking it to prior laundering operations.

US Designates Russia's A7 Network as Transnational Criminal OrganizationOFAC designated Russia's A7 Network a transnational criminal organization and FinCEN proposed a rule under the Combating Russian Money Laundering Act (section 9714) barring US institutions, including crypto exchanges, from transfers tied to its "Sub-Agent" front companies. The network, launched by fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor with state-owned Promsvyazbank, used the ruble-backed A7A5 token (issued by Old Vector on Tron and Ethereum) in a mirror scheme: crypto moved domestically while Sub-Agents made matching fiat transfers abroad in dollars, yuan, dirhams and euros, with staff spoofing their location via VPNs to appear based in Dubai, Hong Kong or Bishkek. FinCEN found over 180 entities moved at least $179.1 billion in A7A5 (mostly via sanctioned exchanges Garantex and Grinex) and ties the network to Iranian sanctions evasion, Nobitex, and laundering of North Korean exchange-hack proceeds.

A Clever RSA Attack Fooled a Hardware VaultβHere's What It Means for CryptoResearchers at UC San Diego and INRIA demonstrated a chosen-message oracle attack that forges RSA signatures on a 1,024-bit key held inside a hardware security module (HSM) without ever extracting the key, by disabling the HSM's FIPS mode to get it to sign unpadded/unformatted values roughly 4 billion times and then computing the private-key operation from the responses (1,380 CPU core-years of work). The attack only applies to unpadded RSA signing oracles β standard PKCS#1 v1.5/PSS padding blocks it β so it doesn't threaten Bitcoin/Ethereum (which use ECDSA) but is relevant to anyone auditing HSM key-custody assumptions or RSA-based blind-signature schemes like Privacy Pass. The authors frame it as further classical evidence to accelerate migration away from RSA ahead of the post-quantum transition.

Your Vulnerability Backlog Is No Longer Technical Debt, Itβs an Attack SurfaceA Snyk blog post arguing that vulnerability backlogs traditionally managed as "accepted technical debt" have become genuine attack surface, because AI-accelerated code generation has pushed vulnerability inflow to roughly six new findings per one remediated, unauthored AI-written code removes the "ask the author" triage shortcut, and cheap automated reconnaissance lets attackers walk large backlogs an analyst never would. It illustrates how individually-low-severity findings (an IDOR leaking an internal object ID, a verbose error confirming valid IDs, and an outdated deserialization library) can chain into an authenticated RCE path invisible to severity-based sorting, and argues better prioritization only reorders a backlog rather than shrinking it. It closes with four metrics programs should measure (90-day inflow vs. closure, age of risk-accepted findings, share of human-authored merges, and security-fix merge rate) before promoting Snyk's Evo product.

Lovableβs OJ Rewrites Viteβs Dev Server in Rust as AI Lowers the Cost of Forking Open SourceLovable built OJ, a Rust-based replacement for Vite's dev server built on the same Rolldown and Oxc components used by Vite 8, to serve roughly one million daily short-lived cloud dev sandboxes; OJ cut median sandbox acquisition time from 14.5s to 3s and reduced dev-server memory use roughly 6.5x. The article uses OJ as a case study for Vite creator Evan You's argument that AI is collapsing the cost of reimplementing open-source dependencies, leading companies to maintain narrow tailored forks optimized for their own workloads rather than upstreaming changes, with fragmentation risks for maintenance and security patching.

The Roadmap to Mastering LLM Inference OptimizationA structured guide walking through the layered techniques used to make LLM inference faster and cheaper: understanding the compute-bound prefill vs. memory-bandwidth-bound decode phases, KV caching with PagedAttention (as implemented in vLLM) and prefix caching, static/dynamic/continuous batching, attention optimizations (MQA, GQA, FlashAttention), model compression (GPTQ/AWQ quantization, 2:4 structured sparsity, knowledge distillation), speculative decoding for latency-critical single-request scenarios, and scaling via tensor/pipeline parallelism and prefill-decode disaggregation. It ties each technique to the specific bottleneck it addresses, making it a practical map for choosing optimizations based on latency vs. throughput requirements.

Vulnerability Blast Radius: How to Measure and Reduce Impact | Blog | Endor LabsEndor Labs blog post explaining CVE-2024-3596 (BlastRADIUS), a critical design flaw in the RADIUS authentication protocol where an on-path attacker uses a chosen-prefix MD5 collision to forge an Access-Accept response and bypass authentication on VPNs, firewalls, and network devices using RADIUS over UDP with non-EAP methods. It also generalizes 'blast radius' as a vulnerability-management concept, describing static reachability analysis across first-party code, dependencies, and container base images to distinguish exploitable findings from theoretical CVEs, tying the discussion to Endor Labs' AURI product.

Securely using pull_request_target - GitHub Enterprise Cloud DocsGitHub's official guide on securely using the pull_request_target GitHub Actions trigger, explaining how it differs from pull_request by running workflow code and actions/checkout from the base repository's default branch while granting secrets and a privileged GITHUB_TOKEN. It details how "pwn request" vulnerabilities are introduced when workflows check out and execute a fork's pull request head (e.g. via ref: github.event.pull_request.head.sha), describes GitHub's new default policy that blocks pull_request_target in public repos (enforced starting Nov 2 2026), and lists hardening controls including least-privilege GITHUB_TOKEN, read-only cache access, isolated self-hosted runners, and the explicit allow-unsafe-pr-checkout opt-out flag in actions/checkout.

tokenizers v1: encode, decode and scaling, measuredHugging Face details the engineering behind tokenizers v1, a release candidate that claims 3-30x faster single-threaded encoding than v0.23 while producing identical token IDs. Key changes include a hand-written SIMD/bitstream splitter (bitcannon) replacing regex-based pre-tokenization for common BPE patterns (GPT-2, cl100k, o200k, Tekken, DeepSeek), a thread-local word cache for repeated pre-tokens, and an allocation-free BPE merge loop using flat arrays and packed 64-bit comparisons. Benchmarks were run via the open tokbench repository across ten model families, comparing against alternatives like tiktoken and other fast tokenizer libraries.

Case study of V7 Go, an agentic workflow platform for finance and insurance. It builds a Context Graph of entities, relationships and cited evidence extracted from SharePoint and Google Drive files, with RAG fallback and an MCP server for querying and ingestion. Workflow steps are tiered across GPT-5.6 Luna (high-volume extraction), Terra and Sol (reasoning and tool use), and GPT-6 Astra (hardest graph queries). Reported results: 78% lower cost per document with Luna versus GPT-5.4 mini, tool-call error rate down from 2.7% (GPT-5.5) to 0.2% (GPT-5.6 Sol), and GPT-6 Astra at 89% versus Sol's 78% on very-hard graph-query questions. V7 also reports ~5% token savings from moving Chat Completions to the Responses API and a 69% gain over the HERB baseline. The figures are vendor and customer reported.
