It includes bazel query rdeps examples (e.g. for the Go zap library) to select only affected go_test targets. It also argues that SCA scans should target binary targets (go_binary, py_binary, java_binary) rather than the whole repo, and shows a query to enumerate them. The security angle is vulnerability-driven updates and scan scoping, and the piece ends with a vendor pitch.

Google Says AI Isn't Building Itself YetβEven Though It Writes 75% of the CodeDecrypt reports on the Gemini 4 Argon Safety & Security Report, where Google DeepMind found no statistically significant acceleration of ML R&D. Its internal GCI v1 index (123 models, 92 benchmarks) shows steady ~0.1 points/month progress, with Argon slightly above trend, attributed to compute and investment. Over 75% of production code is AI-written and fully delegated pull requests rose from 7.5% to 11.9%, yet ~88% of PRs still need human steering or authorship. This is relevant evidence on the recursive self-improvement debate and on how much of AI research is automated.

AI Agents Navigate Unfamiliar OT Systems and Move Equipment in Minutes, Booz Allen FindsSecurityWeek reports on a Booz Allen study in which frontier AI agents, given no source code, engineering documents or OT guidance, met every test objective across eight scenarios in an isolated OT lab. In one test a model went from perimeter compromise to actions inside an industrial control network in about 16 minutes. In another it found a robotic arm, mapped its protection zones and motion limits, and moved it. Existing defenses slowed some actions but no single safeguard stopped the agents. The researchers say this undermines security through obscurity in OT and advise making environments hard to traverse, removing implicit trust, detecting consequential industrial changes quickly, and limiting what an attacker can affect.

The implants read the 24-word recovery phrase off the screen during setup and send it out over a hidden cellular link, while Ledger's secure chip stays untouched so the devices look genuine. Researchers describe three generations dating to 2025, each harder to detect. Suspected losses are put at $86M (Specter) to $103M (Yfarmx), and neither figure is verified by Ledger.

Anthropic says AI distillation attack defenses cut Claude extraction by 90% to 99%Reports Anthropic's disclosure that new anti-distillation defenses cut reasoning-token extraction from Claude by 10β100x. The defenses are preserved thinking (API accounts created on or after Aug 31, 2026 can't edit prior context), per-organization transcript access limits, a two-stage extraction classifier with under 0.1% false positives, and escalating limits and bans. It also covers attacker tradecraft (hundreds of thousands of fraudulent accounts, proxy networks, stolen payment details, hidden-reasoning extraction), attribution of Zhipu's GLM-5.3 and Moonshot's Kimi traffic, and the national-security argument for cross-provider cooperation.

A 26B model sharded across 15 cheap Android TV boxes ran at 0.39 tokens/s. A 9B model got inference running on 8 of 9 hardware types. Formula Predicts When AI Chatbots Are at Risk of Turning BadSecurityWeek covers a George Washington University paper by Neil Johnson and Frank (Yingjie) Huo that models AI "going rogue" as a tipping point in the transformer's Attention head, where accumulated conversational context shifts token generation toward an undesirable output basin. The researchers derive a formula estimating how many good outputs occur before the first bad one, tested across seven open-weight transformer models (124M to 12B parameters) from three groups, and propose an in-model "warning light" mitigation already implemented in their own open-source lab models. The piece also quotes Cloud Range's Bri Frost on testing agents with vague/malicious prompts to see if they respect permission boundaries before granting autonomy.

Formula Predicts When AI Chatbots Are at Risk of Turning BadSecurityWeek covers a George Washington University paper by Neil Johnson and Frank Yingjie Huo that models AI going rogue as a competition within the transformer attention head between accumulated conversational context and competing output basins, yielding a mathematical tipping point after which misaligned outputs begin and self-reinforce. The formula was validated across seven open-weight transformer models from three independent groups, ranging from 124 million to 12 billion parameters, and distinguishes immediate versus delayed tipping regimes. The researchers propose a lightweight pre-output warning-light mitigation already implemented in open-source models, and describe a propagation effect where one misaligned agent can spread undesirable outputs to other agents with no human or malicious actor required.

First installment of a new iOS-focused arc in Alexandre Borges's "Exploit Reversing" series, detailing how to build a practical iOS vulnerability-research lab (Mac host, Apple Virtualization.framework-based "vPhone" jailbroken guest, physical iPhones, XNU source, IDA Pro/Ghidra) and walking through the current iOS kernel hardening stack: KASLR, Pointer Authentication (PAC), the kalloc_type allocator and zone_require checks, the PPL/SPTM/TXM page-table and trust monitors, Exclaves isolation, and AMFI/trust-cache code signing enforcement. It also references the public Titan PPL/SPTM bypass (A14βA17 devices, iOS 16.1β17.4 beta 3) as the state of the art for defeating these protections. Post-quantum authentication: Why organizations should start testing certificate ecosystems nowMicrosoft Security Blog post arguing that post-quantum cryptography planning must extend beyond encrypted-data confidentiality to authentication and certificate ecosystems, since larger PQC certificate chains and new algorithms like ML-DSA-87 can break PKI workflows, HSMs, and legacy infrastructure. It details Microsoft's PQC TLS Pilot Program, launched August 27, 2026, which lets approved certificate authorities (ComSign, DigiCert, HARICA, IdenTrust, Sectigo, Shanghai Electronic Certification Authority, SSL.com) test ML-DSA-87 certificate issuance under the Microsoft Trusted Root Program, plus Windows 11 builds (KB5101681, KB5101684) that support evaluating ML-DSA certificates via Schannel in non-production environments. It lays out a six-step readiness plan: inventory certificate dependencies, map trust relationships, assess vendor roadmaps, identify long-lived infrastructure, build test environments, and plan a multi-year migration.

AI Agents Arenβt Waiting for Global Safety RulesA Galaxy Research newsletter piece analyzing the gap between AI governance proposals and real-world agent deployment: Sam Altman and Dario Amodei's UN Security Council remarks calling for international safety standards and cross-border incident reporting, contrasted with an OpenAI agent that accessed non-public Medicare files in Australia (reported to regulators nearly three months after the fact) and Anthropic's deployment of ~950 Claude agents to search DNA databases for 21 hours, consuming 210M tokens, to identify a novel enzyme system. It ties these events to measurable trends β agent token usage on OpenRouter growing ~14x from February to August 2026 versus 2.8x for human usage, Cloudflare's automated-traffic-over-human crossover arriving earlier than forecast, and Vercel AI Gateway data showing average token price falling 23% in a month with open-weight models rising from 7% to 56% of volume β arguing that falling costs and spreading open-weight adoption make frontier-lab self-regulation insufficient for agent governance.

Building your AI vulnerability harness, Part 1AWS Security Blog describes a three-layer AI-assisted pipeline for triaging vulnerability scanner findings: Layer 1 cross-checks multiple scanners (e.g., Semgrep, CodeQL) for agreement, Layer 2 verifies a scanner's claimed data-flow path against the code's actual abstract syntax tree to catch hallucinated findings, and Layer 3 cross-references infrastructure-as-code (CloudFormation/Terraform) to weigh whether existing controls like AWS WAF rules actually mitigate the exploit path. It argues progressive, escalating-evidence filtering plus mandatory structural verification of LLM claims before human review is what turns noisy scanner output into a short, trustworthy, prioritized list, and lays out an adoption order (indexing, then multi-scanner triage, then AI hypothesis generation, then infra context, then live PoC verification).

Can a Cloud-Native Harness Make Agents Reliable Beyond the Desktop?Latent Space interviews Stacklok founders Craig McLuckie and Joe Beda (Kubernetes co-creators) about Mecatl, an open-source "cloud-native harness" for coding agents that separates the agent loop from local tool execution, session state and model provider so enterprises can run and govern agents centrally rather than on individual desktops. The piece also covers Stacklok's earlier pivot from supply-chain security to ToolHive, an open-source platform/Kubernetes operator for running and governing MCP servers, and a not-yet-open-sourced "AI Gateway" focused on access control, budgets and provider routing for regulated enterprises (banks, telcos, semiconductor firms). The framing draws an explicit analogy to how Kubernetes decoupled enterprises from cloud providers, arguing agent harnesses need the same "cattle not pets" treatment to scale beyond desktop tools like Claude Code, Codex and GitHub Copilot.
