Hackers hijack cPGuard autoupdate to deploy backdoor, steal data

cPGuard, a Linux web-server security suite from OpsShield, had its update CDN compromised on 2 November 2026 at 02:06 UTC using stolen credentials. Versions 5.88.12 through 5.88.19 delivered a backdoor and a script that took password hashes, root MariaDB/MySQL config, shell history and SSH files. OpsShield says 2,946 servers were affected and its billing database was copied. Fix: update to 5.88.25 or later and rotate credentials.

Why Conventional Reputation Feeds Miss Software Supply Chain Attacks

Study by OpenSourceMalware of 624 supply chain attack indicators checked against VirusTotal, URLhaus, AbuseIPDB, urlscan.io, Shodan and RDAP. At ingestion in October 2026, 70.7% of 450 network indicators fell at or below 2 VirusTotal detections. EIP-8477: Recent Block Bound Delegation Authorizations

EIP-8477 is a draft Ethereum proposal (ethereum/EIPs PR #12601, posted 30 October 2026) that makes EIP-7702 authorizations expire. Each one must sign a block number and header hash within the 256 preceding blocks, checked before signature recovery, and a stale entry is skipped without consuming the nonce. How repeated sampling improves vulnerability detection | depthfirst

depthfirst's Best of N study runs a cheap LLM agent repeatedly on the same repository, merges the findings, and uses a reviewer agent to deduplicate and score them from 0 to 100. DeepSeek v4.1 Flash goes from about 52% recall at one run to about 71% at five and 80% at fifteen, and five runs match the recall of top published models at a tenth of the cost. Returns diminish and plateau points differ by model. The benchmark is depthfirst's own dfbench, and only a subset is used.

Understanding and Mitigating Role Spoofing in LLMs is an arXiv paper (October 2026) on role spoofing, a prompt injection where malicious tool output impersonates the user. It shows models track "who said what" using both content cues (semantics, style) and structure cues (control tokens, formatting). The Athlete as a Scientist of One: Agentic Bayesian Experimental Design for Individualized Physiology from Consumer Wearables

EpiCoach is an agentic system that treats one cross-country mountain biker as an N-of-1 experiment. Claims live in an evidence-gated hypothesis registry, and each must make a probabilistic prediction before a session. Predictions come from a digital twin fitted to heart rate, GPS and altitude. In a replay over eighteen months the twin beat standard forecasters on heart rate but not segment time, and the agent loop matched a static model. In the first three live weeks, the ledger sealed 20 predictions and scored 14, and a safety officer vetoed the agent twice. The registry, benchmark and protocol are released.

Scaling Laws for Tool-Use Agents via Controllable Environment Synthesis

SynthAPI is a pipeline that generates synthetic tool-use environments with explicit control over diversity of tools, tasks and underlying databases. Across 458,752 tasks and 849 trained models of four sizes, the authors fit a scaling law predicting downstream agent generalization. At larger data budgets, scaling tool and database diversity beats adding more tasks, and higher complexity helps more. Agents trained this way beat prior synthetic-data baselines on four benchmarks.

CVE-2026-115905 is a ZIP cloaking flaw in the Rust zip crate (zip-rs/zip2), rated CVSS v4.0 10.0 and affecting versions below 9.0.5. ZipArchive reads central-directory metadata while ZipStreamReader reads local headers, so a crafted archive can pass filename inspection and then overwrite a different file during streaming extraction. Version 9.0.5 adds consistency checks, but ZipStreamReader::new leaves them off by default, and extraction is not atomic, so files can be written before an error is raised. The post covers CWE-20 and CWE-436, KEV and EPSS status, Debian status and a six-step investigation trail.

OpenAI Signals work-activity data is a dataset release from OpenAI Economic Research. It maps consumer ChatGPT work messages to 165 O*NET Intermediate Work Activities across nearly 100 countries, quarterly from Q1 2025 through Q3 2026. Work use became less concentrated over time, and countries specialized differently. It covers individual plans only, not enterprise or Codex, and applies aggregation, small-group withholding and noise for privacy.

Clean-label poisoning attack can fool vehicle-network AI without changing labels

Clean-label poisoning attack on federated learning for Basic Safety Message anomaly detection in vehicular networks, from Sagduyu, Erpek, Stephenson and Xue (paper submitted 23 October 2026). The attack perturbs benign samples toward malicious feature extremes without changing labels, which lowers class separability, and it grows stronger with more compromised nodes. A feature-consistency relabeling defense keeps attack success low without hurting clean accuracy, and a game-theoretic model shifts equilibria against attacking.

Scope-Gap Injection: Exploiting Evaluator Channel Blind Spots in the OpenClaw Agent Security Competition

Scope-Gap Injection (SGI) is an indirect prompt injection method for multi-stage LLM-agent safety pipelines, tested in the IJCAI 2026 OpenClaw Agent Security Attack Competition. The visible task and skill stay benign while target identifiers, bypass parameters and authorization steps sit in an attachment written as a business worklist, which the S2 LLM judge appears not to inspect. SGI bypassed all three stages (static scan, LLM judge, live audit) for 5 of 19 targets, best F = 0.385. Attachment placement had 78% S2 acceptance versus 23% in-skill. The paper closes with defenses that align evaluator scope with agent channels.

Kimi K3 has over 2.8 trillion parameters and fits AMD's 288GB per chip, while B200 cannot hold it in one server. B200 must then use tensor or pipeline parallelism over 400Gbit/s InfiniBand or Ethernet, which SemiAnalysis says is 18x slower than NVLink. The post gives no methodology.

MART-GRPO is a variant of group-relative policy optimization for vision-language-action (VLA) reinforcement learning. It uses a LoRA-fine-tuned VLM to find the last visible error without recovery in a failed rollout video, keeps failure feedback up to that point, and drops it afterward. Martingale stopping conditions show this preserves the expected GRPO gradient and can reduce covariance. TRIAD: Benchmarking Omni-Modal Ambiguity in Multimodal Large Language Models

TRIAD is a benchmark for omni-modal ambiguity resolution. It has 327 hand-written text-image-audio queries in 86 scene groups across 18 ambiguity categories, and removing any one modality makes the answer non-unique. Across 14 omni-modal systems, the best model trails humans by over 20 points in group accuracy. Without answer options, model group accuracy falls to single digits, and leave-one-out tests show audio cues are often underused.

Patch the Planet: global response coordination as agents uncover critical vulnerabilities

OpenAI's Patch the Planet post describes the coordinated response to two critical PHP vulnerabilities. Calif found one with GPT-5.6 Sol, and Wiz independently reported both. It proposes a five-stage disclosure framework: upstream fix, advance notice to providers, government coordination, product updates and public guidance. It also lists a PHP version checker, $1 billion in subsidized Daybreak access, and open questions on disclosure windows and emergency patching.

[AINews] DeepSeek DeepInfer: Open Source SOTA Inference running 155T toks/day/cluster making $22m/day at ~80% margin for a 81 day payback

AINews issue for 19 to 20 October 2026 whose top story is DeepSeek's open-source DeepInfer, the inference engine behind V4.1 Flash. It covers prefill/decode separation, wide expert parallelism, a 3FS-backed prompt cache with 96% input hits, vLLM's decode result within 6% of DeepInfer on GB200, and disputed margin estimates built on the reported $38 per accelerator-hour. It also digests other news, and the page text is truncated.
